The State of Hockey
I think TTU probably hires an assistant to keep this ship somewhat afloat, but that's a patch job that will end up putting them back further in the long run.
Yeah reading their boards. They seem split over trying to hire an assistant to try and keep the team together(transfer, recruits, and current players) or hire a new coach since their job has never been more attractive in program history.

I kinda want them to go assistant route while also losing all their recruits and players.

It would be similar to Ferentz going to Penn State in 2003 or 2004. After their glory year in 2002 and decent success immediately after. Hawk fans would have lost their ****.

Ferentz isn't a PSU alum and has never been had any role on a PSU staff in his entire career.

Lol Beard is such a sellout. Tech is going to be so butthurt. Cant wait to watch them play twice a year.

Sellout to come back to your alma mater? Please!

Beard is a University of Texas alumnus who has long been linked to the Longhorns as his star steadily brightened in recent years first with Little Rock and most recently with Texas Tech. The news of Beard's move across the state comes on the same day his contractual buyout for another Big 12 program dropped from $5 million to $4 million. cbs

I've read that the Ulric Maligi (?) guy who is currently on their bench is a future head coach. Why not just go ahead and promote him?

No, this would be like Campbell leaving ISU go to EIU, not only did TT lose their coach, they lost him to their instate rival.

Things like that shake a fan base to its core, and make them question why they are supporting the school. When Gable left ISU for EIU, ISU was one of the big dogs in the sport, no one knew Gable would turn their program around and become a legend.
Beard is a well known commodity, and he didn't leave for the NBA like the mayor but to your hated rival.
It would suck many balls but if Campbell was a UI grad I would understand it...and stop being a sports fan.

While he absolutely has a higher chance than most anybody else there, I'm still going to wait until I see it. How many basketball coaches and football coaches have they, USC, and Nebraska cycled through with people saying they're back? I think Beard will be successful there, but it's not like a lot of talented coaches haven't tried and failed.
A hundred times, this...

At some point you must realize it's not the coaches...it's the AD...and in UT's case it's not the AD...it's the big cigars. A lack of five star culture is pervasive in Austin. Chris Del Conte was an outstanding AD at TCU and now, if Sarkisian doesn't get to the playoff in three years and Beard doesn't get to the Sweet 16 in three years they'll probably fire him.

I bet that is what they do. He has brought in most of the talent to Tech under Beard. Similar to OSU promoting Boynton.

Is the phrase suck many balls intended to be a positive thing or negative? Cause I could see how it could be seen in a positive light for the many people involved.

Average margin of defeat against Tech is 22.2 since 3/2019...

From Fred's first year until Beard was hired in 2017. ISU averaged a 10 point victory against Texas Tech going 9-3
