When no one is staffed at that time... I don’t know why you’d expect something published online short of breaking news.

30 minutes. That's all it would have taken.

If the editor is worth a ****, they'd know when the selection show is. They would also know that ISU was a lock, and that UNI was on the bubble -- at least, they would know if they had bothered to even acknowledge that those teams existed.

Knock out 250 words with the basics, set it to post at 6 a.m., and tag the story with a teaser ("More details in Tuesday's edition"). Easy peasy.

Just laziness and/or indifference.

We all know the state of the newspaper industry right now... so yes, even that may be a difficult task. The softball news in the grand scheme is small peanuts in the overall news world that the Editor would cover. So in a time not staffed, why would you have someone put in extra time... for 250 words.

Just trying to provide some logical insight.

Take care my Cyclone brethren.

I guess that would help explain part of the reason for the state of the newspaper industry.

CF didn't have anything up until Monday. WRNL didn't have anything up. Both of which probably provide superior Cyclone content. No one's mad there. It's the same thing. Where's the outrage folks?

Look. I like JP overall. I wish I could react the way he did to some people that come at me. But you have to stay professional. He's picking a meaningless fight here with this tweet. And you all are feeding into it because we have to stick up for the Cyclones. Think logically. Take a deep breath. I wish Jamie would have.

Here is the thing. The Register sucks and has sucked for years now. The problem is with how none of the Register people can take any criticism.

If you complain about the paywall they will complain back about how they don't work for free. If you complain about the quality of their work they complain about not having resources.

Ultimately it comes down to the chicken or the egg type situation. Individual reporters are not frankly the ones responsible for the sorry state of the paper, but you have to put out a quality product if you want someone to pay for it. I'm all about the idea of supporting local journalism, but I have no interest in supporting the Register because of the number of issues they have and even if they had good support it wouldn't actually get reinvested back into the paper. All it would do is line the pockets of the conglomerate that owns them. If people want good journalism they need to hope the Register dies and creates an opportunity for a true local paper.

If they can’t manage to get something out sooner online they might as well hang it up. In the age of the internet it is no longer “news.”

The brethren are not buying your take that the overall coverage of Cyclone athletics by the Rag is "logical."

No one can be an expert at everything. So I'm trying to provide some context to the situation based on my experiences in a newsroom. Take care.

When most of Randy Peterson's ISU articles contain a negative tone...I stopped reading his filth quite awhile back. I have no problem personally with Jamie expressing his opinion on the matter. I love that he's a fan and he cares. And the Registers struggles go FAR beyond the lack of proper ISU sports coverage. I do not feel bad for them.

Maybe Jamie is taking a page out of our neighbor’s to the east playbook. Treat the press like dirt and they will lick your boots.

Hate that it could come to that because the look and feel of Iowa’s AD isn’t a good one.

I think he just doesn’t give a **** because no one gets the paper anymore and “media” is now based around things like CF and The Athletic.

Late to the party but wanted to vent.
I delivered DMR papers in the 70's as a kid and grew up reading it's sports page from cover to cover nearly everyday. After college I moved out of state and my dad still sent me the ISU articles until I could get them on the internet. The quality of DMR sports and specifically the coverage of ISU has steadily gone down hill for decades. I can't stand reading RP articles and his negative tone. How someone can get paid for asking stupid questions and rewriting the same stories over and over (I bet there were 30-40 stories of FH leaving for the NBA) is beyond me.
I'm good with JP's rant. It's the truth and what most ISU fans want to voice. There were multiple stories about the Iowa track, baseball and softball teams over the weekend. The UI teams completed games/events late Sunday yet the stories were available just hours after they were completed. They could have done the same for ISU softball and track but chose not to.

Yeah, I think that's the part that I really thought he could have left out. I also think he could have left the part about Iowa sports right away and only brought it in when someone made the argument that people don't follow ISU softball or track. Because right now it focuses the complaint a little too much on Iowa which I don't think it what he was doing. I don't he had a problem with the register covering Iowa sports; I think the problem is when newspapers cover Iowa sports but don't cover the equivalent Iowa State sports.

And I disagree with the "that's why I cancelled my subscription" language because as the AD there are things that you need to rise above or not tweet. It just comes across as way too petty, and that's just one of the responsibilities of being AD. Just like how as an attorney there are things that I really can't tweet that others could
I don't understand why anyone airs their dirty laundry out on public forums. The narcissism/voyeurism addiction in this country is out of control.

Good take . . the HUGE elephant in the room which no one wants to address because it triggers about 50 percent of the population. Newspapers moved from "covering" news to "making" news by constantly drumbeating the media's "pet issues." To wit: we live in a predominantly conservative state (both left and right included) . . yet print news has determined they MUST "nudge, bump, shove" people to their view of politics/morality. THAT DOES NOT SELL in Iowa or any other state for that matter. The same is true of the Sports coverage in this state . . . the historical sports landscape has always treated Iowa differently than Iowa State. Heck, you had Zable blowing Iowa's horn for decades. WHO remains Hawkeye centric by its coverage and commercials. Pollard is simply trying to change that culture and if it means stepping on a few toes and hurt feelings . . so be it! The Iowa AD has been flooded with lawsuits and complaints . . .pro Iowa media downplays, dismisses, or covers up. If these same issues were at Pollard's doorstep . . the pro Iowa media would run him out of town.
