How many of the 21 commits contributed even a little bit? Leaders and Hicks were good players, but none of the other names ring a bell for me whatsoever. Granted I was pretty young at the time, but the ‘01 and ‘03 classes both have several more names that I can remember watching.
"I never heard of half these guys. And the ones I do know are way past their prime."

"This guy here is dead!"

"Cross him off then."

Name that movie............

Wondering if you can morph one of these into minutes played by rank (to see how these rankings panned out)?

It would certainly be interesting. However, I'm not a data scientist. This is just a simple spreadsheet I update once a year. What you're asking would require parsing through databases which is a skill I don't have.

I figured I should make this it’s own thread. I saw this post on Twitter, and I’m still laughing!

For those of you who are young whippersnappers, that 2002 class was an utter disaster. At the time, Dan McCarney was riding the crest of the 2000 season and Insight.com Bowl win.

He said at the time that he had to decide between taking California high school kids—they were getting great reception from that quarter at the time—or going for the quick fix with junior college kids.

He chose…poorly.

Yep, they signed a bunch of gaudy JC players (nine of the 21), many of whom either never made it to campus, or didn’t stick.

This was one of about three major gaffes that led to McCarney’s downfall.

Even more, it’s the reason I’m absoluteluly tickled that CMC has recruited minimal JC players.

Were any of the California kids we passed on notable?

I think we need to be in the range of 0.8600 average every year to continue the success that Campbell has started. We're definitely improving, but so are many of the teams we're battling against.

Average recruit ranking by year.

Is it a coincidence that ALL those teams are going up? Or is it just "grade inflation"? Serious question, I have no idea, don't follow recruiting much. Surely not EVERYONE can get better guys every year.

Was going to ask pretty much the same thing. It would be interesting to see all player's ratings plotted out per year going back at least 10 years or so.

Better than Jim Criner’s one star culture.

Levin White, yikes! I hope that after all these years, that guy has straightened his life out.
I had to google him wow, I thought Mack acted on his own because I never read too much on it

I think our quality of recruits has gone up over the past couple of classes. This year and 22’s class both are looking good.

I’m not complaining at all- I trust our coaches to bring in the right guys. However, I was hoping for a bigger jump this year with our NY6 win as well as beating Texas two in a row and beating OU twice in recent past. I just thought we’d see a little more 4 star traffic this year.

I noticed that too. I think it's fair to say that each generation of player is slightly better than the last, so to keep up with the Jones's of the world, you need to continually get better. I would be interested to hear what the 247 people say about it though.

Recruiting is a multi year process and the Top 10 finish/NY6 win is going to help with the recruits at the beginning of their cycle now more than anyone else. If we can follow it up with similar success this year, I’d expect to see more 4-stars in the 2023 and 2024 classes.

Yeah, recruiting is gradual, you aren't going to get great classes when you haven't ever had them in the past. Once we start to get players into the NFL, then bigger recruits will start to join

Here are some recruiting charts I've been updating since the 2018 class.

So much for Chizik being a great recruiter who set up Rhoads with a great roster.

Duh!
I noticed how low the individual ratings were in 2002 compared to today, and I noticed we had the #38 class and were 9th in the Big 12! Kind of like the SEC today.
The B12 had become a power in several major sports: FB, MBB, WBB, Baseball, etc.. That’s why we had to be taken out and we went along with it.

Rhoads’ success didn’t come out of nowhere. 2000’s recruiting rankings are spotty at best; I’d use the on-field results over the arbitrary rankings. That said, the only player I can think of off the top of my head who was definitely Chizik guy is Osemele.

Right on right on. I’m ready.

I’m really excited about our O-line’s progress. If we keep developing guys like we did last year, these solid Iowa high school lineman will start looking our way a little more and not to the losers out east quite as much…
