Why are people so confident that the BIG is even an option? What makes you believe that? I’m honestly asking because I don’t see it. But I want to believe!

IF the Big 10 decides to expand to 16 teams, ISU is a solid option because:

1) We are one of the few AAU schools available to them, so we fit their educational requirements.

2) We have a top 10 football program with excellent facilities and one of the most passionate fan bases in the country.

3) We are a perfect fit geographically. We're located in the Big 10's back yard, so scheduling would be ideal

I think this idea that the pac and big are suddenly going to start handing out invites to be a bit of a fallacy. Nothing left moves the needle for them.
I agree with the B1G. Totally disagree with PAC-12.

But it’s all about the almighty dollar. What do we do for them there?

I still am not sure that Texas and Oklahoma are going to be able to pull this off. I think their legislatures will get involved and I don’t think the SEC has the votes. The only way I see it actually happening is if they leave the NCAA with everyone else and completely redo stuff.

Assuming I’m wrong and they actually pull it off the BIG can’t just sit by and do nothing. They have to keep up with the escalation and add two teams. Their options are no better than us and the Iowa legislature will force Iowa to advocate for us.

I think a new Big12 is about 3rd on the list of best for ISU.

#1 - Big10 invite 5% chance of happening
#2 - PAC invite 20% of happening
#3 - Big12 raids AAC / BYU 70% of happening
#4 - Meltdown - KU & ND to Big10, OSU & Tech to PAC, Baylor & TCU to AAC, ISU & KSU to MWC 5% of happening

#4 doesn’t even appear like it has .1% of a chance based on ND.

Sports would not be the driver to get ISU into the Big10. Academics would be the reason that ISU gets even a consideration and that's only if the Big10 thinks they have to go to 16. The ACC GoR might be the piece that's helping ISU the most in this scenario. If the ACC teams (and ND based on their last contract) are off limits to the Big10, then really only ISU, KU, and Mizzou make sense for them. KU and Mizzou to Big10 and OSU added to the SEC invite would be a disaster for ISU and KSU.

We provide content. I think people underestimate how important more content is especially if college football is moving away from the NCAA and non conference games go away or are reduced.

I would say there’s no reason to completely dismiss it as an option as you are.

I do wonder how much OU and UT's regents have been involved. If TAMU hasn't been involved, then I've got to imagine they haven't taken it to the regents either as that would have tipped off TAMU then. So how much authority do these schools have to do this on their own?

The future is all about streaming, not cable subscriptions, and ISU will do better in this area than several of their current members (including their newest members - Rutgers and Maryland). IF the Big 10 wants to get to 16 teams, there aren't other schools (who aren't already locked into a P5 conference) that check the Big 10's boxes as well as ISU does.

Well unless Bob Bowlsby has sources in the Texas A&M athletic department, he's not going to be able to get the same scoop.

The only reason this was brought to light at all was because A&M is going to do everything in their power to make sure Texas doesn't join the SEC.

That may be the saving grace here….maybe

Jamie and Barry are old friends, I would hope this helps us as well

Also don't forget that these other schools in conferences have GOR and media deals that would have to be broken. If the Big12 is imploding, it will be easy to grab the scraps without all of the legal wrangling.

With all due respect, we don’t have a choice. That’s why we are so crushed by this. We have very little control over other’s decisions. We need to focus on what WE can control and work for the best situation.

Time is of the essence and we need to decide to band together or fight for (selfishly) ISU.

I don't think my post means what you think it means.

Jamie needs to simultaneously work with WVU on the ACC, KU on the B1G, Tech and OSU (and maybe K-State) on the Pac-16. This isn’t a moment to pick and choose. You try everything and if one works out you take it and don’t look back. Because the alternative is that ISU, KSU, and Baylor go join the American after everyone else gets a lifeboat.

I don't believe that Texas and Oklahoma looking for a better deal was a surprise to most ADs, certainly not Jamie Pollard.
