With OU and Texas’s seemingly impending move, it’s obvious the decisions on which schools end up where could be really close decisions that may come down to the wire. So many factors will be considered, it’s tough to make a clear judgement on anything.

Is it possible having “the dream season” everyone is hoping for this year could help out our chances of a better landing spot?

Obviously the decisions go way deeper than this, but a Big 12 championship and, dare I say, a trip to the CFP (or even just another NY6 bowl appearance) absolutely could make us appear like a more viable option for other conferences. Having strong fan support/strong showing for any bowl game we participate in also helps alongside this.

I’m just spitballing here. There are obviously decisions to be made that go deeper than that, otherwise those schools wouldn’t even be leaving in the first place. But it is worth thinking about. I can’t imagine a scenario where that wouldn’t at least help our case. Really adds into the drama of this upcoming season.

One season isn't going to change landing spots for anyone.

Money changes things. Those who have it are fine. Those who don't have it are not.

Can't wait for the 30 for 30 when we win the championship and then the following year get dropped to the G5.

I'd watch it every fall with a bottle of whiskey and a head full of memories as a few tears fall off my face.

Well, do we have money? Why are we constantly building upon our stadium and expanding while Kansas still plays on a track field?

We do not have money. We rank near the bottom in athletics budgets of current power 5 schools. We rank near the bottom in ticket sales. We rank near the bottom in donations.

This is a couple years old but is close enough for extrapolation.

Side note: How the **** does WVU have a budget $7M higher than ours?!

#1 Texas
#8 Oklahoma
#28 Kansas
#40 WVU
#43 Texas Tech
#44 Iowa State
#45 Oklahoma State
#48 Kansas State

I'm guessing TCU and Baylor don't have to report due to being private schools.

It's not crazy at all to think Iowa State has a budget adjustment of $25M/year and likely more coming.

Don’t we have the 3rd highest stadium capacity in the Big 12 for football?

I wonder if these stats for ticket sales aggregate over the several years previous. Wonder if those improve over time.

It’s going to be nice to have Big12 refs making calls in our favor for once (see: Texas v Nebraska 2009).

I'll believe it when I see it. Won't the Big 12 still want the $$$ they would get if OU makes the playoff? However, we are in the running for a playoff spot hopefully this year too... so maybe we'd get the calls over OU now.

No, it's all going to shake out long before the season ends. It's a shame that we finally have our potential dream season in front of us and somehow we still get the rug pulled out from under us.

Actually, the added “new meaning” would be that our team (and everyone else’s) now has additional reason to kick OU and UT’s *** up between their ears.

I wonder if they ever stopped to think about how their own players would react to their schools deserting the Big XII?

44th isn’t bad when you consider there are 65 power 5 programs. (No group of 5’s we’re above us.) That means these conferences have added far less viable schools in the past.

We’re also pretty much at either the same level or higher in total finances with every other Big 12 school in our situation besides KU.

Probably being the only in state school helps in West Virginia. The whole state roots and donates to one team. We split fans with Iowa. I don't know the dynamics, just thinking that might be the reason.

Hopefully the Big 12 just makes both ineligible for Big12 championship this year. No need to repeat the Missouri basketball bull **** everyone sat thru.

Not as meaningful with the numbers laid out. Jack Trice would also be bottom half of the B10.

Texas - 100,119
Oklahoma - 86,112

Iowa State - 61,500
Texas Tech - 60,454
West Va - 60,000
OK State - 56,790
K-State - 52,200
Kansas - 47,000
TCU - 47,000
Baylor - 45,000

It won't have any meaning as far as us getting into another conference. That will all be decided probably in the next few weeks.

It is our last chance to win the Big 12 and I for one would love to go out on top.

That said, I hope people don't put undue pressure on the guys on the team. They want to win but it's not their responsibility to win the league and fulfill all of our 100 years of angst.
