Is this supposed to feel reassuring?

Don't know much about her, but the vacillation on fans vs no fans last year didn't imbibe me with a great deal of confidence in her leadership.

H

It's not supposed to be anything, it's just supposed to be reality.

The Big Ten is an academic consortium in addition to an athletics conference. B1G membership involves joining the CIC, for one.

Do TV markets matter or potential subscriptions? If it was only TV markets, sure. How about AAU status? A good football program with great facilities? Regional similarity. Seems like we have a bit to offer.
Its all about money. Nothing else. We are in a better position than some schools (KSU) but pretty much just hoping for the best at this point..

The problem for the Big 10 is if they don't try to keep up with the SEC, what would stop the SEC from reaching out to Ohio State and Michigan and trying to grow their super league? This whole thing sucks for the sport of college football.

Agree, the Big 10 has to keep up.

I brought this up in another thread:

Texas and OU are gone. Our President and AD need to be working with KU's Chancellor and AD tirelessly to get us into the Big 10 right now. That needs to be the play. I'm hoping the Big 10 goes bold and adds members up to 18 or 20 teams just so the Pac 12 can't get all of us. (Thus, making it tough for them to add viable options down the road.)

It would be nice if ISU, KU, KSU and OSU somehow ended up in the Big 10 (Maybe WVU and some other school?). Because, from a national perspective, adding just ISU and KU isn't going to move the needle when the SEC just added UT and OU. They'll need to try to one-up the SEC a bit to justify such a move.

Nebraska is no longer an AAU member, Notre Dame is also not an AAU member and I know they would take Notre Dame in a heart beat.
Notre Dame is not going there though. They’d go to the ACC if anything.

KSU and West Virginia have a better shot of joining the NFC North than the Big 10

Also posted this in another thread:

Look, Notre Dame is not going to leave for any other conference. They are tied to the hip with the ACC by playing 5 games with them a year as a partial member. It's a sweetheart deal. They are not going to give up their independence because, why would they? They get to schedule opponents all over the country and play games neutral site games wherever they like. They keep their west coast games with Stanford and USC.

Why does ND do this? It is HUGE for their recruiting purposes. They recruit from everywhere! They are always relevant from this aspect alone. They will never fully go all-in with the ACC. (And they are attached to the ACC's GOR's well into the 2030's.)

Let's all just pray the Big Ten would prefer strength in numbers of high-profile academic institutions and wants to ensure they aren't left behind if the SEC continues to poach other high profile schools.
If I were the Big ten and I enjoyed my life the way it is I would essentially make my own AFL to the sec's NFL. Let the SEC bet on themselves and segregate their viewing audience to just that corner of the nation and allow the rest of the schools to continue with the current traditions rivalries and academic priorities that are already in the system. S*** add 40 teams if you want make it very hard for ESPN to get any more subscribers than they already would have.

Of course it’s about money. But what source matters most? Is it ticket sales? Donors? Grant money? Subscriptions services? TV rights? How does ESPN value that these days? Is it by market size or actual eyeballs tuned in?

I think you can pencil in Oklahoma State and Texas Tech to the Pac 12. The biggest question is if the Big 10 will take Iowa State and Kansas. If not, then I'm guessing we'll be in the Pac 12 and Kansas either in the Pac 12 or ACC.

IMHO, the biggest gamble of all is ESPN's. They're using monopolistic practices right now in maneuvering the TX/OK move. Which could set them up for legal proceedings. If this goes through, the Feds will surely scrutinize the move and assuredly tax it. ESPN is already leveraged and will leverage their parent company's entertainment packaging even more. If other leagues do not follow suit, their plan will implode. Or, at the very least, be VERY expensive to sustain.
This is as entertaining as when Microsoft said to IBM, "you can have OS/2. I know we've built it together, but we're not positioned to deal with it now". 2 weeks later they announce Windows 3.1.

In which of those categories would ISU be the desired target?

Dont get me wrong, the Big 10 would be ideal... I just dont see it happening.
