Kinda funny that ISU goes from the 3rd biggest stadium in the Big 12 to basically tied for 8th (with Illinois) in the Big 10.
True...on day one. But we could absolutely justify expansion with UNL and Wisconsin coming to town on the reg. Plus who knows if KU got their heads out of the a$$es. Minn crowds would be soild too.

Well we would certainly help fill stadiums in Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern. Probably still bring a lot of fans to Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

We churn out about 30,000 grads a year so I’d guess our subscription numbers would be pretty good. Have a rabid fan base that sells out.

Grant money - not very familiar with this but I think we do decent.

Eyeballs watching the game - I think our bowl game has great numbers and we typically do pretty well even in smaller games.

Program relevance - pretty good in both

Regional fit - I’m not sure how much they care anymore about this, but I always think about sports like softball and volleyball and wrestling where it gets prohibitive to fly all these teams to the west or east coast for games.

Donor money/AD revenue is where I think we lack the most

Regional fit does matter, just not AS MUCH as it used to regarding TV markets. No team wants to travel extreme distances for every game, for instance, as that can have a negative effect on the players and is quite frankly more expensive.

Might want to check that math...

BIG will want to get to 16 teams to get additional inventory to market. Iowa State is a trendy upcomer in football and there Is is some recent basketball tradition. Big 12 inventory of games is no longer in the supply of power conference games.

Can this be a fair course of action?

IF the only reason we get blocked from the Big 10 is due to Iowa’s refusal, we should dissolve the Iowa Iowa State annual rivalry. Why play them and give them the revenue $ if they are screwing us over?

Why would Iowa do that? It makes zero sense for them in any way other than some spite/pettiness that people on message boards dream up in their heads.

Iowa is not going block ISU. Don’t listen to whatever Hawk-Troll is touting that. This is not a TAMU v TX relationship.

I don’t think so either. That’s just if the scenario were to happen.

They’ll be the only one in the room to say no. Nebraska didn’t leave because of ISU. Why would Minnesota or Wisconsin object? Why would anyone other than Iowa fight adding ISU?

Barrett Sallee with a piece on CBSSports on where the remaining B12 members should end up if the league folds

Baylor: AAC
Iowa State: Big Ten
Kansas: Big Ten
Kansas State: Mountain West
Oklahoma State: Pac-12
TCU: Pac-12
Texas Tech: AAC
West Virginia: ACC

ISU: Big Ten
There is a report that says that Iowa State has been connected to the Big Ten which makes a ton of sense. The Cyclones already have an in-state rivalry with current Big Ten West power Iowa and is a member of the Association of American Universities -- which is an important factor in determining which programs to invite. It has a true Midwest feel not only in its style of play on the gridiron, but a coach in Matt Campbell who was born in Ohio, played at Mount Union and coached at Toledo prior to heading to Ames, Iowa. Iowa State is consistently a tough out in football, just won the Fiesta Bowl and checks every other box that would be on the Big Ten's wish list.

This is how I see each result in order of best outcome:

1. We get into the Big 10: the one scenario where we improve our standing as a program. Would be incredible and give us a more stable environment.

2.The Big 12 somehow gets things altogether and competes the Hail Mary, gets OU and Texas from making the jump. Then obviously our program stays the same as things are now. Looking bleak for this scenario, though.

3. Leaving for the PAC 12: a bit of a small setback for the program, but not terrible either. Still will have an ability to make due with what is given.

4. Staying in a castrated Big 12: Bad scenario, still hope for down the road that we can maintain a respectable program. But major uphill battles to climb for any chance at national relevance. Would have to hope Big 12 finds a way to eventually get expansion.

5. Leaving for a group of five (AAC, MW, MAC): doomsday. Death of sun, program is screwed. Likely lose all progress gained from the last 5 years.

We are so much better off than 10 years ago. The fact that every national media outlet has us likely going to Big 10 shows how far we have come as an athletic department (cough cough Matt Campbell).

They have one valid reason - they would own in-state recruiting like it was 1987 for the rest of time. But that is the only reason other than the spite of some of their fanbase, which isn't a legitimate reason.
