I think if the Pac 12 expanded to 16 with four Big 12 teams, you HAVE to go to pods. All the non-California schools want access to California, so you couldn't go with a clean East/West split.

NW Pod
Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State

California Pod
Stanford, Cal, USC, UCLA

Mountain Pod
Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State

Midwest Pod
Whichever Big 12 teams

You play the three teams in your pod every year, preserving rivalries, and two against each other pod (one home, one away). This gets you to 9 conference games, and guarantees a road game and a home game against each region, rotated so that you can face every other team home and away within a span of four years. Also ensures each team plays a game within the state of California every year. It also ensures all California schools play each other every year, which was a sticking point when the league went to 12.

Really hope JP is leading instead of following. We really need ESPN/OU/TX to offer some kind of settlement since we cannot afford to wait until 2025 in limbo. Problem is they know this too. ESPN tried to accelerate things, but OU and TX can just wait us out and borrow against their new $EC payday.

Right now I'm:
75% zombie league
15% AAC
10% MW
0% BIG or PAC

Why offer them a settlement when they were the ones that went behind the conference's back and put all of us at risk. They have said they are going to stay until 2025 as a bluff, both they and the SEC want them in the league ASAP.
They can make more money in the SEC after the buyout then what they can make by staying.

No way, wait them out. They, SEC, and ESPN are itching to get them into the SEC. The playoffs expansion and Sankey's big plans for rewriting NCAA laws in his image are severely hampered while Texas and OU are playing in the Big 12.

Need a lawyer to chime in, but as I recall civil court does not have a "beyond a reasonable doubt" requirement to go in favor of the plaintiff. Whether a bench or jury trial, its based on the preponderance of evidence - is it more likely than not that the defendant harmed the plaintiff. So even sketchy timing of meetings and phone calls, without having the content of those discussions, can play into this.

And I believe that ESPN has to follow the current contract until there is a settlement or ruling. So even if we go to court and OU/UT leave, they'll have to continue media payments at the current level.

There is no reason not to file suit if there is evidence ESPN ****** around. Now it's time to find out.

I believe this is the case. Recall that while OJ got off in criminal court he still lost in civil court. It is a lower burden of proof.

I’m still confident we end up in a PAC expansion. They wanted to expand before and they need to now.

Yes they are all telling reporters they aren’t interested. They don’t want to get caught up in any of these future lawsuits.

Plus this gives the pac12 3 timezones for games. 11am to 9pm every Saturday.

There has to be some value to getting four football games on one channel in one day. The Pac-16 can do it with kicks at 11:00, 2:30, 6:00, and 9:30 Central.

Jay Jordan (who is a lawyer) was on Sports Fanatics today on KxnO. He said that most likely, if it went to court, the judge would rule that the current contract must continue to be followed until the trial is finalized - even if it goes past the GOR ending.

ESPN could be paying the other 8 members for several years even beyond 2025 depending on how long it gets drug out if there is any merit found.

I wonder exactly WHY they tried to do it. I just don't understand how they thought it would actually work. Just like I understand WHY some loser guy might try to ask a supermodel out on a date.

But yes, I agree, not time to panic. If anything, such a move shows that ESPN was acting out of absolute panic, incredible stupidity or both.
The only reason I can think of is that they thought they’d kowtow to ESPN’s wishes like everyone else had (see Big East-ACC), and that the remaining member institutions didn’t value themselves higher than the AAC. The former I can maybe see, but the latter would be a severe miscalculation on their part.
