Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

No one making decisions cares about it but I still do and I assume plenty of people here would enjoy, as fans, landing in an awesome hoops conference, which could happen if it makes the most $$$ sense i.e. football sense.
He says it as a joke / slam, but that's a big part of why this is happening.
Texas (boosters mainly, but in general) think they are too good to lose to Kansas State, Ok St, TCU, Tech, Baylor, ISU... they ought to be playing big boy football with Florida & Georgia & Bama. Those are the real quality programs. They fail to reach the next logical thought which is they are gonna get their butts kicked there too, and worse. It's just unsane. I'd be happy to see them go and fail there too, if I wasn't worried about ISU's uncertain future.
The funniest part is they don't even realize the SEC schools are looking down at them, thinking they're a joke all the while willing to take the money they're going to bring to the conference. I can't wait to see (from a distance) which entity breaks which first.
Bowlsby had some interesting comments today. He said the Big 12 and ESPN have agreed not to escalate things publicly. He also said the remaining 8 teams won't lose as much TV revenue without OU and Texas as previously thought. So some good news for a change!
If it's true that the remaining Big 12 schools will "only" lose $14 million annually in TV revenue, then maybe it's time to settle with OU and Texas and move on. Make this their last season, bring in 2 new members and sign a long-term contract with ESPN (like a 15-year agreement) that allows both parties to avoid litigation. Leak some of the details before it is finalized to see if the Big 10 or Pac 12 wants to get involved first. In the end, we might be better off in the Big 12 than joining the Pac 12. I don't want to watch games that start at 10pm central time.
Gotta remember also that our payments are supposed to increase each year so technically, it should be less than that. ESPN should be about to pay about a third of that by scrapping LHN. Exit fees from those two cowards and we should be darn close to even until 2025 at least.

Well, here’s something. Sounds like the Big XII might have a little leverage here. Of course, that’ll all be negotiated away with some kind of buyout, but the more painful the conference can make it for Texas and OU, the better.
ISU losing $14mil a year is a nightmare.
OU and Texas may regret their move. The Big 12 had something special going with their round robin schedule. If we can get a decent TV deal for a reconstituted Big 12, that might be better than a 20 team Pac 12.
3 days ago we thought we were losing $20 mil or more a year. ISU AD has a $100 million budget. We won't lose anything through 2025. If we have to, we can get by on $90 million or so annually in the years following.
Quick math 8*14=112*3=336+160 is about a half billion. OU/UT are only looking at 250MM upfront to leave after this year. They said they have it.
In other words, Bowlsby is as dumb as he looks.
Ankeny is a suburban nightmare. There are much better places in Polk County to visit that actually have some charm and culture.

The more I think about it, the more I like it! The B1G and the Pac don't want us anyway, so fug 'em! Plus, I like the 8 Big Xii teams that will be left behind, so let's grab Cincinnati and Houston and call CBS to network the Big Xii like they did the SEC for so many years at a reduced rate. Win-Win for everybody!
