He was like if it made you a little emotional good for you but he found everything too corny. His 1 major gripe was that the time Costner was wandering on the field till the players finally started coming out of the corn was way too long.
He’s not entirely wrong but so f*cking what? So because the guy was on the field a little too long the rest of it was ruined? Give me a break.

Nah, the ASG is an exhibition, part of what made this so fun is two top AL teams battling it out in an official game that has post-season implications.
Except, when this was set up, planned and scheduled there was no way to know that would be the case. Just as they are now planning this for next year again. There is no way to know whether the teams will be close to first place or not.
While this game that may have been the case, lucking out every year, and getting that kind of a matchup would be unlikely, unless you picked the teams right before the game, which I find unlikely.

I have no Idea if the plan moving forward will be to keep the Sox and the Yanks in their every year if it continues. Or give other teams a chance to play there.
Or as I said make it a All Star venue giving players from all over the country a chance to be there. Obviously the infrastructure would need to be built up but that is the point. It would be great for Iowa and the local economy.

I didn't watch the game, but based on comments here, I watched the part where Costner and the players came out. I am assuming when Costner was roaming the field, it was supposed to be a parallel to the movie in that it was built, and people came? Did they say anything on the broadcast about it?

We had a chance to work at the game. At orientation on Wednesday, the Dir. of Special Projects for MLB asked the appx 500,..."When was the last time you did something for the first time? This is the first time for everybody involved with the game." Afterwards, we were given a quick tour of the ballpark from one viewing area.

Yesterday, we checked in at 10 am for our 11 am to 9 pm shift in the parking lot. I was in the executive lot. Three highway patrol cruisers escorted 3 MB Sprinter lux super sized vans taking MLB commissioner ans entourage into the ballpark. Costner and his entourage were escorted inside, but had to park in my lot. The "VIP's" were also in and parked out.

After the game started, we were allowed to go get our box dinner and tour all the public places. It was awesome to cross over the movie field, scoot through about 15' of 8' tall corn to get on the path to the stadium. What a sight it was in the public concourse. Went back to our assignment with not much to do until our shift ended at 9 pm. My body was dead

Turned in our safety vests, walkie talkies, got on the road at 9:15 and found the game on SXM, the CWS feed. The 8th and 9th innings were magical to hear on the road heading back to Muskieville.

@Gonzo, how long did it take to get out and on your way?

Yeah we were the idiots who left in the 8th inning to beat the crowd out of there. So we cruised out easy and fast. We also missed that amazing 9th inning. There were tons of cars parked out there in the huge grass lot (similar to Hinterland) and only one road/way out. The drive from downtown Dyersville to the site before the game was at points taking over an hour.

It sounds like Cubs-Cards or Cubs-Dodgers next from from the rumors.

They could double capacity for those games and still sell out instantly. Especially if it’s Cards and Cubs.

I'd assume so long you get at least one local team (Cubs, White Sox, Brewers, Twins, Royals) the game will be a sell out. Also, for die hard baseball fans, this could be a bucket list type of thing to do.

The site cannot handle any more than was there yesterday.

Anybody know how long it took to clear the lots?

I heard that getting out of there after the game wasn't too bad. A lot of people lingered in the stands, a lot went back over to the movie site. So I think cars left in waves and it wasn't nearly as bad as we thought it'd be.

It seems like it would make sense to include any historic franchise.

The Tampa Bay Rays is not as cool as even Giants or Dodgers.

1935 teams that are at least around in name today
Braves (boston)
Red Sox
Dodgers (brooklyn)
Cubs
White Sox
Reds
Indians
Tigers
Giants (New York)
Yankees
A's (philly)
Phillies
Pirates
Cards
Nationals

I had friends that were there that hung out on the movie site until they finally made them leave at 12:30 and he thought there were still 100 people there at that point. Just people that wanted to keep soaking it in and didn't want to leave.

Such a cool thing for Iowa and for baseball.
