Again, there are no facts to be had. Everybody is talking out of their ass here until proven otherwise.
Right now, many are “talking out of their ass here.”

It doesn’t follow that “there are no facts to be had” related to what others are quite reasonably speculating about — how much revenue a particular school might add to a conference, game attendance, and so on.

At this time, being the operative portion of the statement. There was never a chance that they were going to announce that they would, as that would severely screw the Big 12 teams in trying to settle.

I agree. Why did the go the route of even having to say anything at all then? The BIG and ACC didn’t release anything like this? Prepping people on the west coast for it in the future?

And this makes them more safe?
Sounds better to the common fan if the conference has assessed their situation and determined they are in great shape and don't need to expand. Anyone paying attention understands it's meaningless, but to those fans who just hear bits and pieces (the overwhelming majority of fans) this makes the conference sound like it's in a healthy place.

I think almost anyone could look at the PAC 12's position in all this and think, yeah, they definitely need to do something, so they're by far the most likely conference to act now. Any sense of possibility floating around is going to be used by the exit lawyers to diminish the settlement, so this helps in that regard (and Big 12 teams entering with some ability to defray the cost of partial shares assists in the PAC 12's negotiations with them as well).

Correct, and we are rightly not taking anything people are saying on this board seriously. God love Dave but nobody should be taking anything he is saying here seriously.

Of course people can be reasonably speculating about game attendance and stuff like that, we have hard data there. I was specifically speaking about Dave and people people like him giving the indication they know how realignment will shake out. They don't know. The facts specifically relating to who is going where don't exist. The facts about carriage fees and what a school's attendance are known.

I mean, we all called this. Nobody is going to discuss expansion "at this time" until the current mess gets sorted out.

Be more specific then instead of making blanket statements that don’t make any sense — that put down other people here who know they are speculating about the future — such as that everyone here, presumably except for yourself, is talking out of their ass.

And what Dave said is consistent with what I’ve seen elsewhere said by others seemingly in the know in a way and statements in the past in a similar situation. Disclaimer: I am not claiming that what he said or others said is fact. I’m saying it is consistent. Until there is more legal certainty of course people are going to be circumspect in what they say. And JP, unlike many people, has a long established record of not leaking or talking about these kind of matters publicly in the first place.
