Jared Rus at fullback. And I don't think we are underestimating Schweiger, we are just saying that the o-line is THAT good. Honestly I think that Remsburg has huge potential. Simmons as well if he can cut down on the penalties. But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised in Schweiger was a starter.

Right now Schweiger > Simmons.

Simmons could end up being better than Schweiger by the time he graduates though…. huge upside. Penalties are definitely a factor in being a great O lineman.

It's amazing to think of all the potential of some of the guys not even appearing on that list.

Building talent like never before.

SIAP But, I am listening to the CyCast - Cyclone Coaches Corner 08/31/21 and Walters and CMC go through a lot of the names mentioned above.

The Ramos thing shouldn't surprise, we need a center next year and apparently the staff thinks hes the man.
Newell redshirted in 2017. Played in 18 & 19. 20 doesn't count(covid). So I think he will have 1 more year after this season.

It would probably be best for ISU if several of the guys with a COVID year available moved on while others at the position group took their COVID year so there isn't such a drastic drop off in one year - rather a gradual transition.

I have a few thoughts:
- Milton at PR makes a ton of sense, I would also bet it is him.
- Where's Mason Chambers at on safety? (not listed) maybe he has an injury or something
- JR Singleton must be a badass, if he's even on Isiah Lee's level that's a huge boost for this defense
- I don't dislike Zach Peterson at DE on early downs but hope Suttle or someone else is in on 3rd and long.
- Our starting LBs are huge..
- Will McDonald at 245 lbs? Yes please. Best of luck to the UNI tackles on that one
- Datrone Young to me has earned his starting CB job back and played really good football late last season, good for him
- Remsburg is a very quality starting Tackle in the Big 12. Good to see him there starting. He's likely even better with a year off with Dave Andrews.
- Joe Scates starting at the 3rd receiver spot. This adds up for me. He clearly has more ability and game breaking potential than Shaw. That's not a knock on Shaw.
- Purchase and Freyler must be badasses for already being on the depth chart in 3-4 months of being in the program. Wow good for them. Defense's future looks bright.
- Looks like Jared Rus is the team battering ram again, good for him. Runs seemed to work when he was involved last year. (#28 also helps)
Hypotheses:
  • Injury
  • Depth Chart Motivation
  • Simply got passed (pass coverage was a weakness in my mind)
To me he might make a great linebacker with a little more weight. Just spitballing here.

Might frosh Deon Silas return kicks?
doubt they would use him just for returning kicks. Seems like a candidate for a redshirt if used sparingly in 4 games.

Could see Myles Purchase return kicks if he is going to see regular playing time at backup corner.

Replacing all 3 starting LBs next year is gonna be painful.
True, but the dudes behind them will be in the program fo at least 3 years by then and will have played a good number of snaps. Really hoping for some blowout wins so we can see a lot more of the 2nd string LB’s.

I thought Grant Trieber would be back up LT. Tyler Miller must be lighting it up. Or maybe another CMC depth chart mind game.

Seems like Coach Campbell sees special teams as a high risk venture (based on his fair catching punts policies). With Kene back there, I think he was talented enough to flip it, and reliable enough to reduce the risk. Could be wrong, but it seems like a place he would be less likely to put a freshman.

The punt return fair catch thing seems overstated to me. There aren't a lot of punts returned by any team. I would love to see the numbers on that. It's something our fanbase has complained about for years, but I think it mostly stems from ignorance and a fantasy of having Devin Hester back there.
