Iowa will be the best team ISU has faced since the Notre Dame, in the CWB.

The sample of Iowa games by Campbell isn't better than previous coaches... nor is that the standard we should be applying anymore.

I want to see ISU win as much as anyone, but how many Iowa games have we lost close or blown now? I'm in "prove it" mood, here. We know we can win, but need to actually win. The game last week didn't leave anyone a lot of good feelings, but that's not necessarily indicative of our future.

What margin would have 'proven it' over UNI?

What is the difference between win and 'actually win'?

I felt good about a lot of things after the UNI game - Special Teams, defense, Purdy's ability to play within himself.

Probably should have been 8 more points on our side of the board but it was a LONG way from a game that was a setback or 'not an actual win'

This is why our fans our stupid. Too many Iowa State fans dismiss the quality of any team that we beat. Just because we beat Oklahoma and Texas and Oregon last year doesn't mean that they weren't good teams.

Iowa could be very good, but for ****'s sake.
Our stupid? What about their stupid?

Just win. Don't care how it looks or by how much. Trusting the coach and the seniors to want this badly and get it done!

A team with our talent level should be winning that game by multiple TDs. UNI wasn't bad, but we really should be that much better. Still, it was an actual win -- I never said it wasn't. A W is a W, it just was not an inspiring one.

We've never actually beaten Iowa under Campbell. No W's there, even though we've had multiple opportunities to close out and get one from them. The slow start curse is getting painful and needs to be broken.

Obviously we aren't going to change each others minds.

Enjoy Hawk week!

I don’t know if that’s actually true. CPR, Mac and even to an extent Chiz’s problems weren’t necessarily winning early games. Their problems were winning conference games.

Oh, we lost to or squeaked by teams like UNI and Toledo early in their seasons as well.

Toledo
North Dakota St
UCONN

The good news about the UNI game is there won't be a single player on the ISU squad who thinks their **** don't stink. Campbell and company will have their undivided attention all week.

I see no way Iowa wins without Petras making some plays in the passing game.

This is the game in a nutshell IMO from the ISU standpoint. Sell out to stop the run, blitz like nobody's business, and put the onus on Petras to make plays. The guy's not played any highly ranked teams at all let alone on the road. He's pretty green as far as starting QB's go. And Heacock's "D" is designed to confuse opposing QB's and speed up their decision making.

I think he struggles. I'm hoping he makes a lot of mistakes (INT's etc.). I think ISU will be fine as long as we don't turn the ball over.

Just finished watching ISU's and Iowa replay.

Iowa is fast and athletic on both sides of the ball. Iowa's 50 yd first score was a TD to the sideline almost at the same time the ball was handed off to the RB.

Hall/OC coaches are going to have to figure our how to get open in space. Hall needs 150 yards+ for ISU to have any chance. Unless the pressure is off Purdy, 'twill be a long day.
The final score of this game will prove you are wrong about Iowa being the toughest opponent since ND.

They don't have the length and speed ND did at WR but other than that, they look like ND physically. ND was a game where we physically whipped. Iowa is going to be a major challenge. They are comfortable in tight games, keeping close, then waiting to capitalize on a mistake. I worry Purdy will turn it over once or twice. Iowa also has the ability to hit on a big play just when they need it. They are not afraid to take shots, the thing is can Petres hit on them. I find it hard to believe we are going to score more than 20 on Iowa, our defense is going to some how have win it for us. We we struggle scoring TDs against Iowa unless it is from far away. Doing a sustained drive and getting it to the red zone it where we stall, either with a mistake like a false start, a penalty, turnover, or FG attempt. We struggles against UNI last time and against an Iowa defense that is not as good as this one could only score 16 points.

Sorry. I see no similarities between Iowa & ND other than they both play college football. How did we get to the point here where we're saying Iowa is as good as ND? ND has been competing for and been in the playoff the last few years. Iowa???

As for their defense? I don't think it's any better than what we faced from K-State & WV last season. And what happened in those two games? We rolled big time.

The ISU team we'll see Sat is going to be much different (in a good way) than the one we saw vs. UNI, IMO.

Iowa fans are on a high because they to their own surprise whipped Indiana. lost in the final score is the fact that indiana had the worst offensive line in the big 10 and 5th worst in all of cfb when measured in terms of qb hurries and rush yards metrics. So that’s the backdrop for last week’s myth of terrific defense.

Iowa only managed to put up 300 total yards to the tune of 20 points and rushed at 2.5 ypc outside of one early carry— on a decidedly poor indiana defense (also easily looked up).

It’s astounding how such facts get missed in pumping up Iowa into some kind of a giant based on highlights. Thanks to player losses, they are a worse team than they were last year while isu kept most of the experienced cream. the math speaks for itself.

Some ISU fans will never get past the '80's and early to mid '90's when "the streak" was alive and well and we couldn't beat Iowa to save our lives.

And no matter we have one of the best young coaches in the game, beat ranked teams, compete for conference championships and the playoff. These same fans, every year no matter what, will say we won't beat Iowa. It's just in their DNA I guess. Hayden Fry just living rent free in their heads for an eternity.

This game is going to come down turnovers and maximizing red zone trips.

My one biggest fear (full disclosure as an Iowa fan) was Iowa not being able to contain the run with their inexperienced defensive tackles. Last week eased my concerns slightly as Iowa stonewalled an admittedly poor Indiana rushing attack despite bringing in a former 5* transfer and multiple starters on the O line. Im a bit further optimistic since ISU didn’t appear to be firing on all cylinders offensively last week.

All that said, I do think if the turnover margin is zero, ISU wins 20-13.

I don’t think Iowa has turned the ball over against us since about 2005, so you can probably rest assured at worst for Iowa the turnover margin will be 0.
