My fault for poor phrasing. Yes beating Iowa was important as it is a box to check that hadn’t been checked along with a few others for the senior class.

Is there too much internal pressure from the team?

Like they're too worried about checking things off instead of just going out and playing ball.

I don’t know if that’s the case, each player handles goals and pressure differently. And one thing I’ve learned over the years, college athletes have short memories, they’ll be focused on what’s next pretty quickly.

I thought the podcast was pretty much on point.

Agreed with Williams that ISU kind of played into the Hawks hands by not speeding things up. Works in the B12 because ISU is an anomaly in that they play great D, ball control ect. but that's basically been KF's game since he's been there.

The ISU D did it's job...obviously turnovers killed the Clones. Tory Taylor was probably Iowa's MVP.

Enjoy.

Chris,

I thought this was a great podcast episode to make you think about this game, prior games and maybe into the future.

I get what Campbell is trying to accomplish vs. Iowa. Play their style snd mistake free football and don’t give up any turnovers that allows Iowa’s conservative offense free chances to score points. Iowa State has not mastered this plan over the years and this last game just proved what happens when Iowa is better at that type of game than you.

Before the game I was hoping Iowa State wouldn’t turn the ball over and give Iowa easy opportunities to score, which they couldn’t do and made life easy for a very average to poor offense. We try playing a style that the other coach is much better at than we are.

I also thought that Iowa State if they could get on Iowa early they might be able to force them to press a little more and make their quarterback have to make plays. This is why I thought CW podcast was good. I wonder if the Cyclones need to not play Iowa’s game but force them to play faster and make mistakes. Iowa feels comfortable playing the way we are currently playing them and don’t feel the need to take chances. They will gladly punt and and just play a field position game all day long.

The coaches are way smarter than me, but you have to make your opponent uncomfortable and think they need to play faster and create more confusion for them on defense while trying to force that offense out of its comfort zone and having to make plays to keep up.

I do think after this one, Campbell will reevaluate how he gameplans vs Iowa going forward, because when you are 0-5 something isn’t working and you know you need to make some changes.

Not exactly sure.

I think tornado may be Macs brother, or outside chance at him. It always reverts back to DMac is the best we ever had or ever will have since beating Iowa is all he cared about.

Chris always appreciate you and Your teams work. Thanks for all you guys do.

CMC was pissed but I think mostly at himself. It’s not just the TOE game but also UNI. Just like he was pissed at the defense a few years ago and they came up with the three man front. I think we see a similar change in the offense. I trust the coaches to figure out how but you hit on a few key concepts. I think we become simpler, faster and start changing tempo up. I almost wonder if we’re too complicated with guys thinking too much?

Maybe this loss winds up spurring some change and innovation that pays off down the road.

Generally, I think our offense has been playing “not to lose” instead of playing to win.

The offense has been playing?

During the game we were talking of why are beating our heads trying to ball control when it took all of what, 5 plays and 60 seconds to score a TD right before half. It looked too easy. I understand it was hot, and quick 3 and outs would not be good for the defense but holy cow....if it was that easy before half.......try it again to see if they can stop it. Don't stop yourself.

I remember how there was no rhythm last year vs. LA and it really bogged things down. Imo it's not a speed thing as much as it is a rhythm and timing thing and it was weird to see ISU still not have it.

I don't think they have the personnel to go track meet style like the B12 was years ago but just some urgency would help.

I'd figure they'll have it this week but too little too late if you wanted Iowa fans to be quiet for like 5 minutes.

I can tell you this——unless we luck out and get to the Big 10, I’m in favor of dropping this game. I did not miss it last year and it is no fun. Since our new conference is so great, no need to play Iowa.
I’d be okay with this as well or at least moving it back so we play them when we actually know what we’re doing

Does anyone remember time of possession on this game? Seems like defense would be right back on the field after the turnovers in the heat and still played great.

Against a big line like Iowa’s I think Purdy is only effective if you let him be Purdy. He’s not particularly tall and keeping him in the pocket seems to affect his field vision negatively. I think the old scrambling throwing on the run pump faking slinger might have had a better chance. But I also think he may be blaming himself a bit too much as well. Pretty disappointing the number of drops or passes bouncing off hands.

We were doing pretty well with the Hawk jerks in our section when we had a security guy up there but when Cyclone fans started fleeing at end of the third, he left for other duties. A 10 year old and his dad sit by us and they started filling in vacated sits next to the kid and bullying and cursing at him. The kid loves to stay until the end but the dad had to get him out of there. I hope he just moved him to a less hostile location in other vacated seats. Was grateful for the effort at the end of the game because when they realized the deal on the field goal attempt, they got nervous at least briefly and shut up for a bit.

Imagine yearning for 3-9 seasons so long as ISU beat Iowa.
Why is beating Iowa and having successful seasons mutually exclusive to you and others on this site? What happend Saturday (given the vast experience that was returning on this team) is simply unacceptable. Given we have seen this same urgency of play for 2 weeks now, I am beginning to question some of the player leadership of this team (and not on the defensive side of the ball). Coaches can only do so much, at some point the players have to execute, and to put it bluntly execution is a far cry from what this offense has done the first two weeks.
