This is nice. Looks like a new scholarship in memory and honor of Jack Trice.

Yes, thankyou to Kent and Kristen Lucken of Newton, Mass. for starting this!! Very generous and couldn't be under the name of a better person, J. Trice!

I don’t think it changed anything. One less scholarship the AD has to fund and an honor for the recipient.

Yep. Long-term, it’s budget relieving so annually that $2,500+ can go elsewhere. Significant.

Thank you, Luckens, what a wonderful gift. Kent Lucken has always been a quality dude, and cardinal and gold blooded through and through, so this is not really all that surprising. I think I recall Kent trying to get an alumni group started in Northern Virginia years ago. Not sure there were enough Cyclones in the area to get it off the ground.

We used to live in the Clifton Forge area x3 years, just N of Roanoke, VA. Just tell 'em about Jack Trice and I'll bet some quasi-alumni Cyclones will magically appear.

Again thank you to the Luckens! What an honor! Hope it continues after the five year endowment.

Not exactly sure.
I don't think so, because it's awarded to someone already on scholarship I believe it still counts against the 85. If they gave it to an incoming freshman it could be an NIL.
Yeah, I read it after I posted. It’s basically giving money towards one of the 85 full ride scholarships. Labeling one and picking up some of the cost for the AD.

They have pledged to make the gifts over five years which will permanently endow the scholarship.

Not exactly sure.
Anyone know how much it takes to start a permanently endowed scholarship I would be interested.
I would say multiply whatever amount of scholarship you are thinking by 20-33 (5-3% return range). They generally have them be more conservative than what people shoot for on their retirement funds. So a $1000 scholarship would be a total of 20-33k. A 22k full cost would be 440-726k to be permanently set. Plus with inflation you would want a 2-3% bump in annual value so that would mean they would hold that much return.
