So this is now a real thing in 2022. Still not sure what it even really means.

Likely a major change in what is required for donations for parking, seat location, and maybe even new dollar amounts required for top-level donation groups.

I'm guessing we get a new $25K+ level. Directors moves to $15K-$24,999. Victory goes $7500-$14,999. Captains $4K-$7499. Gold $1K-$4K

You'll have to give $15K plus to get Johnny's tickets.

Iowa economy just grew by 7.7% last quarter, BLOWING AWAY our peers in the region. Leading that charge was the AG economy. Stock market has been GREAT. I bet the Cyclone Club is getting VERY busy with 2021 tax planning season and gifts are on the rise. A couple more football wins would REALLY help though

If I'm not mistaken, Cyclone Club gifts haven't been tax deductible since 2018. So there really are no tax considerations here.

Hoping this is good timing for me.
I wanted to add a 4th seat this year but couldn't get 4 together.
Maybe this will move people around enough that I can get them this year.

Likely going to need to up my donation somewhat significantly though..

So, this will be the fodder for much discussion through the next few months. I will make a few predictions.:
-All donation levels will go up and there may be some new ones. The break lines on the upper levels will likley be based on how they are spread out above donation levels now to still encourage some step up.
-It probably will not be more than 25% +/- and they will be careful with Directors Level as there really are not that many of them in the grand scope. They also need to keep them in the fold and not drop out or down.
-IMHO there is a 99.5 "% chance they will not reseat and totally start over on seating. They will reindex through the price points. Pollard has always followed this as the best overall method when he looks at the pro and cons of it. If you reseat, there have been donors who for years have paid high amounts and that does not reward longevity. This is why there is a priority point system.
-There will not be any mandatory minimum attendance on donor seats. While we all admire the loyal fans who have made it to so many games over a long time period, the donor paid for the seats and even if empty they have the right as such.
-Heck it is very possible they 2 WBB tickets could be ours, we buy them to support the program and do not make that many games. The frustrating part is getting someone not wanting to move when we do use our seats, so this can be seen from differing perspectives.

Just my thoughts and guesses.

I think if you make the contribution to the Foundation may 80% is tax deductible?

I've been at the Cardinal level for around 15 years and my parking keeps getting worse but it is the price of success. I can't afford to give more and to compensate I have always selected my football season ticket seats in the $250 donor level so when reindexing happens maybe I'll be able to keep my current seats.

Correct. But I think the way around that is adding a "business expense" like promotional tickets for your company

lol that doesn't make it deductible, it is neither a business nor a personal deduction.

That used to be the case, up through 2017. Beginning in 2018 it is no longer deductible at all. Non-athletic gifts to the university remain tax deductible as any other charitable donation would be.

no, they did away with that. It's either fully deductible or not at all. It specifically states in the law that if you receive tickets (or the rights to purchase tickets) it is not deductible.

So much has happened since this was first announced a couple years ago. We'll probably never know, but I wonder if or how much Pollard's thinking on reindexing has changed given how much the external environment has changed. All these things he cites in his letter that create a lot of urgency around reindexing could also work against him. Will there be some segment of people turned off by NIL and the eventual paying of players, or unwilling to pay more for a league that has lots its marquee brands?

My guess is those concerns are longer-term in nature and won't be felt for awhile - or perhaps ever - but it will be interesting to watch at ISU and elsewhere.

In a letter received today, JP let us know that to achieve the annual level of funding required for the future, re-indexing of Cyclone Club annual giving levels will happen in January 2021. No specifics yet but look for future details this coming spring(2020). Based on general information provided in the letter, it looks like at least a 25% increase in annual donations is needed.
25%. No problem.

Ordinary and necessary costs you incur in running your business can be deducted from your income, which reduces the amount of tax that you will owe. Marketing, sales and employee engagement are necessary costs fpr most businesses

Here is what I am reading into re-indexing (asking for more $). Here are the benefits:

1) Matt Campbell and staff stays for a long time.
2) Parking lots get resurfaced.
3) Other facilities get upgraded.
4) Wrestling brings home a natty.
5) Annual beatdown of Hoks in all sports.

I'm up for the increase and ready to pay!
