I always have good luck with the Woodsmith Store. They carry Benjamin Moore and can answer any questions.

What type of HVLP gun do you use?? I bought the Earlex 5500 systems from Woodsmith and HIGHLY recommend. I made some kitchen cabinets for our basement bar area and the Earlex is a game changer.
Woodsmith and Ace carry B.M. paint.
It's what we repainted our cabinets with. HIGHLY recommend.

I bought some paint from ACE the last time I did some trim repair. I don’t remember what I paid for it but I remember thinking holy balls that was more expensive than I planned on for just quart. It was pretty good paint though. You can tell it is better stuff as it goes on than cheaper paint.

Also, I enjoy going into the local ACE and I know some of the guys there but damn stuff is so expensive there.

I love Ace for paint, grills, smoking stuff, occasional hardware but I'm not going to buy everything there.
If you think Ace paint is expensive check out Sherwin sometime. Wowzers.

Can you thin the BM paint enough that it sprays ok with the HVLP. I bought a Harbor Freight gun that I want to try out. I’ve never used one before.

I spray BM paint through a 1.5 mm tip and works great. That is using Earlex HVLP and had great results.

I go to Woodsmith for all paint, stain and top coats. You pay more, but the finished product is so much better.
I refinished a chair for a guy, and when I charged him $200, he about had a fit until he seen the final product. Turned out so much better that original.

Ha. Several years ago, I walked into Sherwin Williams and got some paint mixed up to match a room in house we bought because they left the old can. I found out after they started mixing it what it was gonna cost me. I faked needing to take a call and walked out and left. I felt like a jack wagon for doing that but my god it was gonna cost my 7 times as much as what I ended up getting elsewhere.

Where’s the best spot in the metro or surround area for rough sawn lumber? I need some walnut, cherry, maple, and mahogany for a project I’m planning. Looking for stuff that’s already seasoned.

How did your project turn out???

Ended up spraying a set of closet doors and a bunch of trim with a Harbor Freight gun with a 1.4mm tip. The finish turned out great but you could tell the gun wasn’t made for spraying that thick of paint even after cutting it with some water. There wasn’t a ton of coverage with each pass even after dialing the gun in. I probably should have grabbed the Wagner. The paint itself was great other than being 20 bucks a quart at Ace.

I borrowed a bigger compressor to use with the gun and it kept up. My pancake compressor definitely would not have. I need to remember to keep the compressor on a different circuit than our freezer. At some point the GFCI popped from the compressor and ruined basically everything I’ve posted in the smoker thread so that was fun.

I tried to use a Harbor Freight HVLP sprayer a few times to spray stain and it did a decent job. Bought the Earlex 5500 and what a difference. Constant pressure, really good coverage.
Let me know the next time you have a paint/stain/top coat project. You can use my sprayer to see if you like it. I was really impressed the first time I used it.

Thanks. I’ll have to take you up on that.

I’m not 100% sure I had the gun dialed in correctly but it was as good as I could get it after tinkering with the dials and pressure.

I could never get mine dialed in. I am a rock with lips, so the less step, the easier it is for me. Hahahaha. I am also lazy.

This summer project was to add 2 egress windows in our basement and add a bedroom for my wifes mom. She moved in with us last year, and we wanted to let her keep some independence. When we tore into the wall, preping for the egress window, we decided to make her a little kitchen.

The cabinets are solid oak. Our goal was to get a rustic/grunge/farm house look. I think we came pretty close. Counter top is epoxy dirty pour with metal flakes. Turned out pretty good.

Why doesn't anybody make a complete impact bit set that can be used with a quick change driver? I don't want the short stubby **** where you have to use an adapter. I very rarely use my drill for driving anything and I'm sick of bits falling out of the magnetic adapters. Anyone found anything like this?

Also, ya'll should post good black friday deals you run across. My neighbor has one of these and it's pretty friggin sturdy. Will probably pick one up for half off.
