No idea what’s it’s about as this is my first exposure, but it was a good movie. Excited for the sequel

I thought it was ok to good. I am more of an action kind of person, so those parts I enjoyed. But the ending was kind of blah for me. I do understand the Dune series, even though I have not read the books, I have gone down the rabbit hole of youtube videos and stuff to have a decent back story of the series. Really, I think Dune is more of a drama then an action movie.

Watched it last night and really enjoyed it. I have not read any of the books and pretty much went in blind to watching it, so was very confused the first hour or so, but started to understand it as the movie progressed. I have already ordered Dune and plan to read the series before the second movie is released.

This is what I was wondering. I have not seen the old movie. I have always considered reading the book so I know the premise but haven’t gotten around to reading it. I wonder if I should read it first or watch it. Takes me forever to read a book, so I’m thinking I know enough of the premise to go right into the movie.

It's 50/50. I just read Dune a few weeks ago. It's very good in general. Pacing is odd, and there's a very sudden jump at the end as though Herbert said "Oh, no, I've got to finish this thing RIGHT NOW!" It's the rare monster-sized book that could have used a little more right there and maybe a couple other spots.

I'm seeing this movie tomorrow. Waiting until Tuesdays where all movie screens at Marcus Theaters are only $5, including the premium Dolby Ultrascreen ones, which is what I got

Watched it in the basement. It was...fine? I asked my wife beforehand if she wanted to watch it (most of the actors had been cycling through GMA last week). I doubt she would've sat through it if she had agreed to watch it.

I absolutely did not recognize Bardem as Stilgar for a few beats. I was confused they didn't introduce Feyd-Rutha, but Rabban even had such a small role that the character wouldn't serve any purpose. Bummed that Brolin didn't break out whatever a baliset is supposed to look like, but the bagpipe overlays on his scenes were great.

I've read the first three books more than once. I usually start losing interest about halfway through the second book. Dune is very much a drama with short intense adventure sequences.

It is very much a space political drama rather than an action thriller.

I'd say if you've held out this long, just give it a watch and if the overall story intrigues you, then give it a read. The reading is for more detailed and I can tell a few of the aux storylines/characters are going to be left out. But the ability to have the characters visualized in your head already may help.

I took this approach with Game of thrones, and it caused me to get that interest/excitement through the screen, and my mind needed to know more, so I read all the available books haha.

Wife actually loved the movie. Went to see at the Palms in IMAX. We both know Villanueve's movies as worthwhile to watch as one of her favorite movies is Prisoners, while I just adored BR2049. We left the theater wanting more, and I was very surprised how well the movie explained stuff without making it confusing or too much. Would recommend, kind of reminded me of GOT season one with half of it building up the world, and the other half starting to get into the political intrigue.

Watched it last night. Special effects were good. a couple of the sandworm shots were awesome.

Guy the played the big barbarian horse lord in GOT had some good fight scenes.

Huge fan of the guy cast as Paul as well. He was good in a movie where he played a drunken prince who became king. good fighting scenes in that movie as well.

Got HBOmax free for 7 days with Youtube.

I've never read the books, but I watched the movie last night on HBOMax and thought it was spectacular. I love sci-fi movies but find it hard to suspend disbelief when reading. After watching the movie, I'll be picking up a copy of Dune over lunch.

Watched it over the weekend and really enjoyed it, even knowing it's only the 1st half of the original 80s flick.

I did chuckle because it appears they raided DCU, MCU and Star Wars for all the actors. Aquaman, Thanos, Polka Dot dude (Suicide Squad) and Poe. Did I forget one?

I'm a huge fan of the book and find the political discourse to be the most intriguing part of it.
