Give me Steve's salary and you can critique my job performance all you want. Pay a guy 2.5 million dollars a year and only hold him to the "nice guy" standard.

literally NO ONE is saying he should not have been criticized or fired. NO ONE.

I’m saying that CW getting worked up because someone unfairly bashed his coverage of the season is not worth being mad about. Because of how stressful last year was.

Gotcha. Well count me out on any CW bashing. Guy provides us all with great content at no expense. Can't imagine getting worked up about that.

And I’m not bashing him either.

I'm still confused on the unfair bball coverage. Can anyone clarify ISU AD/Prohm being upset with CW/CF because of 20/21 basketball coverage?

That's wild to me. I felt like I do recall one thing about a Stans article, that got real, and then things got reigned back in a touch.

Yeah I don’t remember this either. I remember they seemed to be pushing for TJ to be hired after the firing but nothing particularly unfair before.

Thought the coverage was fine.

CF was fair in its coverage throughout the year. At the same time, Chris, Jared and even other media like Hines were frank about the state of the program without being mean about it.

It’s human nature to take things personally, especially when your livelihood is at stake.

there were some comments on podcasts before the season was over about how they might not get to go to vegas anymore because TJ wouldn’t be there. Implying he would be the coach at Iowa state.

I always figured those comments were what got whoever worked up on the prohm side. Honestly I thought it might have been a wife.

Can anyone actually vouch that he's a good guy? Or is that just an assumption because he supposedly attended weekly religious services?

do you think he isn’t?

The comments that CW was referencing came on the heels of the Mississippi State debacle. MS took issue with how the media portrayed things after the 95-56 loss in Starkville.

fine. As I have repeatedly said, I didn’t see anything unfair in the media’s coverage.

I have said that I can understand how someone who was close to the team would maybe inappropriately react to that coverage. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often.

I honestly don't know, just asking for someone who actually knows, not what we read on message boards.

He was a good guy. He cared about his players. He was a very poor gameday coach and some of his assistants (Small) did absolutely nothing to make his job any easier. Ultimately he was unable to maintain the culture of a Top 20 program and ran this thing into the ground. He is not a bad person but he absolutely destroyed the Iowa State basketball program.

Nice guy? Sure. But at the end of the day he was a well paid public employee who performed miserably and deserves the scrutiny that comes with that.
No one has argued that he didn't deserve to be fired. The point that others are making is that his performance deserved firing and that happened. To continue to seek him out to run him down is ridiculous. He paid for his crime with the capital punishment of employment, it is time to let it go and let him go.

When the effects of employing him and leaving the cupboards astronomically bare, compared to what he started with, continue to haunt us 2 to 3 years down the road its really not ridiculous
