How long after an interview does it take to hear back?

One of our big dogs at Principal IT has recently been talking about the steps they are taking to hire IT folks. One of the big things they are changing is how fast they give out an offer. It sounded like they got burned by a lot of other companies offering it faster.

On a a side note, if anyone is looking for a job with Principal in one of the positions below, look me up. If you get hired and stick it out 6 months, we both get a bonus. Most positions allow 100% remote work if that is your preference.

When they say "a few weeks"? Been waiting 2 weeks to hear back about a County job. Honestly don't really care if I get it or not but can't really make plans until I know.
I don't think that's a long wait for a government job. If you call HR, they can probably give you a pretty good idea about what the timeline would be.

I figured it was about 50/50 anymore with that. All you can really say is "I wouldn't hire this person again" right? I wasn't sure if this being a government job and in California they would have more rules for HR people regarding checks.

You can't really even say that, and even if you could the old employer could just be a spiteful ****.

An example where you might want to at least make a phone call is if you want to verify how long someone has been employed, especially if experience level is a key factor in your decision.

I was just on the other side of the interview situation -- but without direct hiring authority. We'll be making an offer on Monday to a candidate I originally interviewed in July. My take is the candidate was persistent and polite enough without being a pest.

On the other hand I though my our senior management was going to drive me crazy.

I'm making the assumption that it's highly doubtful anyone would be on this site. But the best candidate does not have a degree. Our senior managers had trouble with that. We require skills and other assessments, background checks, etc. Combine managerial reluctance with red tape and you have a 4-month cycle.

Son got his job offer a little over a month after a phone interview. Between interview and offer, he got an email that he had been rejected. However, that was for the job he applied to. They offered him a different job at better pay.
