I will never understand what happened with Purdy. Was it him? Was he over-coached? Did his time with the team just get stale? Such a peculiar case! I never would have imagined Purdy would be this ineffective this season. Honestly, Hall too!

Im honestly starting to think it was the COVID fluke year, where we put up big numbers against teams who had many players out due to Covid.

its not just the offensive line.

have they under performed yes. without a doubt. but they have had 8 man, sometimes 9 man boxes (there are 5 of them) and even 7 when you add Allen / Rus and unless Kolar is blocking inside the box there is at worst one free defender. Not to mention there is a shocking level of disrespect shown to Purdy as a ball carrier that we have not taken advantage of enough IMO....

and no huge threat on the perimeter. We have one true game changer and he lines up in the backfield.

Unless you have 3-5 NFL caliber offensive linemen (early round guys not just a bunch of 6th round guys) you are not going to be able to maul people out of the way against consistent 8 man boxes or pass pro when EVERYTHING we do is either super slow developing on the ground , we never move the pocket....

we do absolutely NOTHING to help the offensive line.

1) Screens ? Rarely,
2) Draws? Rarely if ever.
3) Roll outs and boots to move the pocket? Occasionally to rare.
4) Seemingly go on multiple snap counts? Don't know, hard to tell on tv.
5) Have well scripted quick hitting plays? Ha-ha-ha.
6) Get the ball on the perimeter quickly to draw leverage and un-accounted for defenders out of the box? Rarely,
7) Have a quarterback who excels at getting rid of the ball quickly and decisively
8) Have a productive down field passing game to again draw the safeties and leveraged defenders away from the box which also makes line backers not rush down field on the snap like a bat out of hell because they're worried about getting to their drops at 10-12 yards or more depending on the coverage call.
9) Run to where the defense is not

Like I get it. The offensive line has been less than stellar... but how many of those 8 or 9 things to make the box cleaner and help the OL have we done tonight or any other night for that matter?

Unless you have a bunch of pro linemen .... and even then it's going to be hard. The offensive line has certainly underperformed...

but I'd argue we have done nothing to help them
You have a QB that is good in the RPO. Brought it back vs OSU. Absent vs WVU and I think they’ve run it once this game. So stupid. RPO is a way to hide a bad OL to some extent.

Offense showing they’re worthless again…

Manning needs to be fired. He’s worthless.
From afar, out of State, all I can say is that both Campbell and Manning may be rather stubborn. Do they think we have the athletes that can duke it out with many of the other Big 12 teams and come out on top. Our recruiting rankings consistently say this is not so.

So we should be unpredictable, innovative, take risks on offense. Yes, I think so, what's to lose. Yet we do not. Repeatedly. I'm confused.

For a little perspective on some of the offensive woes this game...

Purdy whiffed on running though a tackle for a 1st down in horn territory for a TOD.
Hutchinson fumbled after a decent gain.

2 drives in the crapper due to operator error. Calm down.

We haven’t been able to get anything going offensively after X’s fumble, though.

That WV comparison isn’t totally apples to apples. They wanted that game last week and completely shot their wad against us.
I don’t buy ‘wanting it more’ is the difference between 500 yds of offense vs 130. WVU got demolished by OSU.

Mildly disturbed by the band dance mascots tonight. Was that a yellow squirrel ? Who thought this up .. the local acid dealer?

I mean,

I mean... Their coach literally said they hung this score in their lockerroom in the off-season and planned all year to bets us. So there is merit.
Then we should be better at that and ask WVU how they did it because we have done the same thing with the Iowa score and that hasn't helped us win that one in a long time. In fact we have arguably looked the worst each season in that game. So now what?
