With Tech and TCU both firing their coaches before we play them, how does that impact our games against them coming up? Advantage us due to moving parts and distractions, or advantage them due to lack of film of interim coaches style?

I'm curious what everyone here feels about it.

Side note, Tech's hire of McGuire seems like a great move for them.

I assume you meant TCU, not Baylor, but I don't think anyone really knows. If the players didn't like the coach, it could make them play harder if they like the new guy.

Conversely, players could view it as a "we're moving on from this year and looking forward to the future" move and decide to go through the motions.

that **** gets old. see paul rhoads

This will give away how young I am, but my freshmen year in the marching band he came to visit rehearsal before the first game. He was pacing around, working us up until we were cheering and going crazy for him. Promised us a warm bowl game, etc. I'll let you check the record for 2015.

The word out of Lubbock was that Wells wasn't really a great fit culturally at Tech. He apparently didn't have great relationships with the administration there, and wasn't really adapting well to Texas recruiting. Him being let go will likely be better for both parties in the long run.

As for McGuire, he seems to check the boxes that Tech wanted of a guy with strong Texas HS ties who can fill the role of CEO Head Coach. Him getting hired this early allows him to jump into recruiting with more than month to go before early signing day, as well as start assembling his staff. Meanwhile the interim staff will handle the remainder of the season on field.

The view from the outside with Patterson is that the games has just passed him by, and he wasn't willing to keep up. With the changes in transfers and NIL, along with his out-of-touch comments during the protests last year, it just didn't seem likely he was adjusting to the shifting landscape. Add in the music stuff, and it definitely looks like he wasn't fully invested anymore.

Winning the press conference is very important.
It's important from the initial season tickets standpoint. Wins on the field are the only thing that matter. I don't care if you can talk, I care if you can win.

What was the reaction in general on this board after Campbell was introduced?

They were mostly positive from what I remember. I think everyone was ready for a change, but still unsure about Campbell being able to make the step up from Toledo to a Big XII team. @tolfbfan came onboard shortly after the news was announced and tried to convert everyone. He was more sure than anyone here at the time! Turns out he was freakin Nostradamus.
