Kunc is coming around. Thought Conditt looked pretty solid tonight. Surprised he wasn’t in there more since we were trying to drive and dish and he’s by far our strongest finisher at the rim. Lots of would be assists getting blocked tonight. Do like Jones’ head fakes, though.

I really did trust we could keep them from scoring when they got the ball back down 3. Long time since I could say that.
Its a long season, with the front line so slim on numbers I wonder if TJ is just trying to keep him fresh. He will play more minutes against better teams.

That was not a good team. We were a bit exposed tonight, but glad we snuck out with the W.

Exposed in what way?

We were out rebounded and shot 5% from 3 and won.

Show me one other time an ISU team did that.

Not a pretty game for certain and this team will still struggle to win1/2 its games but they are doing exactly what they need to do to have the best chance of winning. Not to mention Hunter and Brockington continue to look like 2 of the best guards in the Big XII.

I thought it was another step forward.

Ya that team had some athletes. We played poorly of course, but they played pretty decent defense. If we hit a normal percentage from three we win by 15.

They seemed long too as did Oregon State....although much of that is because Iowa State is the opposite of having length.

Shooting the 3...not so good. Defense though continues to be strong...the last couple of minutes was outstanding. Believe AS had like 26 turnovers, some self-inflicted, but that will keep us in many games. Another step, albeit half-step in the right direction.

I’m starting to find myself comparing this team to the ’95-‘96 team (Floyd’s 2nd year here I believe) in the sense that nobody saw it coming. Will we defeat KU in the conference tourney and go to the NCAAs? Probably not, but we sure as heck won’t finish last in the conference. I’m just going to enjoy the ride.

Way up there
Had we not missed a bunch of bunnies in the first half, we would have won by about twice as much. TJ had the right adjustment, the guys executed by getting the ball to the high post, we just missed easy shots that normally would fall, a weird shooting night. Other than Tre, who really struggled handling the ball, I don't think anyone played bad, most of the missed 3's were good looks, it was just an off night.

Yup, missed a wide open layup that I believe would have put us up 14 or 16…

I think results wise maybe more like Wayne Morgan's first team. Not for making the NIT, but both coming off of bad years (2 win season now and LE disaster then)and doing better than most expect.

Brockington looked like a go to guy last night. Not sure that will be the case every night, but it's nice to know he has that capability.

On the post-game show, what I really liked about Otzelberger was that he didn't dismiss the bad shooting as "just one of those nights." He had a reason for why the shots weren't going in (the offense was rushed). He also was not pleased with the defensive effort. So glad to hear a coach who can analyze why things happen on the floor and holds his team accountable for the expectations he sets.

it was not a good team... sometimes bad teams have a good night though and hit crazy shots.. like they did and sometimes other teams miss all their 3’s.. like we did..

if you look at team stats you would think we lost by 10+..

we didn’t bc of our defense and toughness.

I guess my concern is tonight's shooting performance isn't just a one-off. Grill certainly started the year hot, but that will be very difficult to continue to shoot at that clip. Beyond him, I'm not sure we have anyone else who can shoot from deep consistently.
