I feel like I've been transported to a world where R.A. Salvatore never existed. The 90s were rough for fantasy. It was basically Wheel and the Weis/Hickman Dragonlance stuff. I read it all but it doesn’t hold up IMO.

Seems like many of the negative show reviews can't get past comparing it to GOT, which while both are fantasy they are very different. As far as the book series generally fantasy fans, myself included, hold WOT in higher regard, but if GOT ever gets finished, it won't, that may change.
It doesn't sound like he will allow anyone to finish itIt’s morbid but George needs to kick the bucket like Jordan did before it gets finished.
Just thought I'd stop back in and say I just finished book one and enjoyed it a lot. Now I'm deciding if I'll wait for the copy at the library to be available or go ahead and buy book two.
So which one is good with girlsSo... I got sucked in hard and finished reading/listening to the series in it's entirety in 2 months. Oops. Let's just say I didn't do much but read during any free time I had in that span. Anyway, I really really liked it. It'll be fun to see it brought to life on screen.
I've only read the first book (finished it last week) but most of the negative reviews are people that don't know the source material and are saying it's too similar to LOTR and then I saw a couple more that were complaining about how much money was spent on it, which is kind of an odd way to review something and it more seemed like they just wanted to take a shot at Bezos.

Watched the first episode... it's pretty good! I'd definitely recommend it. Great locations and I like the cast. Main character kind of looks like Hayden Christensen from the Star Wars prequels, I literally can't get it out of my mind. Trollocs look good too which is pretty tough.
I thought the trolloc effects were decent but still had a bit of a lower budget look. Like they would have been great about a decade ago, but are starting to show their age. Not bad at all, just maybe a step or two below the top. That said, I enjoyed it quite a bit.Just finished episode 3 with the wife (knows nothing about it and doesn't like any series/movie not based in present day). She is actually really engaged and looking forward to the next one.
I'm pretty understanding when it comes to changes needing to be made to fit a different medium, so have bene pretty happy so far. The changes I've noticed fit the narrative of the characters so I understand the decision and I'm not holding it against the show. I'm enjoying the show and hopeful for the future.
I'm absolutely blown away with how well they pulled off the trollocs and have kept the spirit of the characters alive.
After the first 3, I'm really sad about Mat being recast as Barney Harris seems perfect for the role. I'm hoping there's a "good" reason he left the show.
