My thoughts on the Liberty Bowl:

First of all, with a 6-5 team, ISU is lucky to play in the Liberty Bowl.

It's one of the 8 oldest historical Bowls.

The first Iowa State game I remember was the 1972 Liberty Bowl vs. Georgia Tech.

It's an easy drive for Iowa State fans.

I've been to 5 Liberty Bowls:

1976 C-O-L-D! 18 degrees at kickoff with wind-chills below 0. Coldest game I have ever been to in person, and I have had season tickets to Iowa State, Northwestern and Cincinnati! Coach Bryant wore a red ski mask that night!

1993: Cold with a wintry sleet mix.

2007: Cold and sunny!

2012: Cold and rainy.

2017: Cold and grey.

Now, any Cyclone fan that complains about the Liberty Bowl weather needs to remember to NEVER talk about "if southern teams had to play in Bowl Games up north" again!

I may be in the minority, but I think Iowa State going to the Liberty Bowl and playing an SEC team will be a much different experience than the last two games in Memphis.

Let's Go State!
Bring on the Vols!
Nothing sucks like a Big Orange!

That was 2011. The 2002 game was to end the season at home in like UConn’s first year in FBS.

I was up north I missed the very darkest yrs of ISU FB. Back then you were lucky to find a ISU score in the small print score section of the T.C. papers.

Hell you couldn’t find it in the Iowa papers, including the Big Peach, unless they lost.

I should add, they lost a lot.

My first bowl game was the Hall of Fame Bowl in Birmingham, Alabama, against Texas A&M. If I recall correctly you have mentioned that was when you first became an ISU fan. ISU was on a quarterly system rather than semester and had to leave a number of players behind because of grades. Fun time. Damn Curtis Dickey though. We couldn’t stop him. It was a double whammy for the Cyclones as we lost to UAB in men’s basketball the day before the bowl game.
Go State!

Yes, that H of F Bowl was my first Cyclone Football game!

Earlier that season, I had met a cute girl from Iowa at a High School Game and went to the after game dance with her. I was smitten. "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner is still one of my all-time favorite songs. :) The first question I asked her was whether she was a Cyclone fan or a Hawkeye fan (That's an Alabama thing). She said, "Go Cyclones"! I was hooked from that moment on. Then, when ISU made it to the H of F Bowl, I made a point of going to the game. All of my Alabama friends thought I was crazy rooting for a team way up there somewhere because of a cute girl. lol. A couple of lives later, I ended up graduating from ISU! Crazy world.

I forgot about the basketball game! Damn Blazers!

And what happened to the cute Iowa "Cyclone Fan" girl and why was she at a high school football game in Alabama??

I was born on the morning of the 1977 peach bowl. my dad says that because of me he got out of work that day and got to watch the game. Hopefully someday I get to watch us play in the Peach and have it come full circle.

I do not see Texas somehow finding it against Kstate.
sign me up for an ISU win and KState loss this weekend to give us a match against the Fighting Dabos in Orlando
I don't think K State has anything to do with our selection. Two years ago we were selected over the Purple Kitties and they beat us head to head. This year, if both teams win this weekend, they will each have the same record in the Big 12 and ISU beat them head to head.

I believe, if ISU wins Friday, they will be the fourth selection for a Big 12 Bowl game.

Chris and Blum were saying on the podcast that in that scenario they think the bowl reps would take KState this time due to the better overall record and because we were picked for the camping world just a couple years ago

West Virginia went two straight years, and our game versus Notre Dame was pretty well attended even without a Florida team in it
