@jereseib You would take the Fiesta Bowl over winning the Big 12 title? An exhibition over finally breaking the conference championship drought? Crazy imo, but you do you.

Side note, we would have had both your precious exhibition bowl win with a Big 12 crown last year had we pulled it off in Dallas because we would have done the same thing to Florida that OU did to them in the Cotton Bowl.
Yeah, I would rather win a BCS Bowl game than win the Big 12. We already won the conference last year anyways, we finished ahead of them and beat them head-to- head. We lost a useless 13th game that was only added to make money and give the committee another data point for the playoffs anyways.

And you are right, we still got the exact same level bowl either way. Beating Oklahoma wouldn't have changed the caliber of bowl.

good post

I guess I'm still frustrated in part that I believe alabama's (and sec) rise was in part due to espn's creation (hyping up the conference, fixing key bowl games and leaving more-deserving teams out, thereby allowing sec teams to acquire better recruits and build up their rosters) -- in my eyes, some of the older alabama teams like you said had clear weaknesses and guys that probably wouldn't even sniff the field now yet at the time they were hyped up to be like the greatest of all time
I was still a season ticket holder back then, so I saw all of those early Saban teams play. His first team (100% Shula players) in 2007 went 7-6. All of the losses were by 7 or less including the home loss to UL-Monroe! Some of the players bought in and had fine careers (including Javier Arenas who was an All-American on the 2009 team) and John Parker Wildon (who struggled in Shula's offense and became proficient in 2008 - when had Julio Jones to throw too and Mark Ingram to hand off to). Some of the players quit and hit the transfer portal - as it was back then.

The 2008 team (11-2) was a very important team (even though it wasn't as deep and talented as later Saban teams), and they reminded Alabama fans of the old glory days (when Alabama was always tough under Bryant and Stallings), reached #01 (due to staying undefeated after Florida lost to Ole Miss) and won the West. That team also had to stop the Auburn 6 game winning streak - which they did emphatically 36-0. Then, they had to play Florida and Tim Tebow in his Junior year (when he willed them to win) and lost a hrd fought game in the SEC Championship. Florida went on to beat Oklahoma and Sam Bradford in the BCS Championship and Alabama lost to that great Utah team in the Sugar.

The 2009 team was super loaded mostly with the newer recruits from Saban (including Ingram who won the Heisman), Julio Jones, etc. along with some old holdouts from the Shula Era like Javier Arenas (All-American defensive back). They were nasty good, and they stopped Tim Tebow and Florida cold in the 2009 SEC Championship Game 33-14 or something like that. Made Tebow cry, cost the Gators a chance to win back to back National Championships and led to the Urban Meyer stress crisis which hospitalized him and eventucally chased him away.

Then, 2010, Alabama was super loaded but had injury problems all year (including an Ingram knee issue). They lost 3 games including @ South Carolina to an 11 win Spurrier team) - which is the last game Alabama has lost to an SEC East team. However, they were 100% healthy and stomped B1G Tri-Champion Michigan State (who was 11-1) 49-7 in the Citrus Bowl.

2011 and 2012 were dominating BCS Championship Teams. 2013, they were heading for a 3rd straight title before that stupid Kick 6 loss @ Auburn followed by the loss to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.

2014 was when they hired Lane Kiffi as OC, and they have been toally different since that time. Alabama decided to become a spread team, and a 5th year Senior QB (Blake Sis) who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn for 4 years and in Sprign practice broke Alabama passing records in his one year as a starter under that brash new OC Lane Kiffin! fyi: I am a Lane Kiffin fan!

Back to the future, even though this year's team is super talented, they struggle in many areas including the o-line, not being able to run the ball (multiple backs are injured) like they usually can, and the defense is putrid. They have been on the verge of losing five games this year (including to mediocre teams that play hard), but they pulled them all out but @ A&M.

Georgia is going to clock 'em.

Okay, enough of that!

Let's Go State! I don't care where the Cyclones Bowl. I just want them to go out in style with a win and finish (8-5) and maybe sneak into the Final Top 25 if they are fortunate enough to play and beat a ranked opponent like Clemson, NC State or Pitt in the Cheez-it Bowl!

With how well Kolar is now playing completely healthy and how well Hall has been lately. I feel bad for any team that has to play us.

IMO, our poor line play and often suspect playcalling sets us up to fail against any team with more talent than us in a bowl game

Please Provide a picture of that Big 12 Championship trophy in our trophy case. I will be waiting a VERY long time because we don't have it. Like it or not we did not win the Big 12 last year. This isn't basketball where we have a regular season and tournament champion.

And the point about the same level of bowl is making my point. I would have rather won the Big 12 title last year because then we would have gotten that AND the big NY6 bowl win because Florida wanted no part of that game and we would have beat them the same way we beat Oregon. Maybe worse.

Any team with a slightly above average d line turns the isu offense into hero ball. Inconsistent run game, BP running for his life. Still can score but very inconsistent and puts tons of pressure on the defense.

That may be, but whenever people throw this line out there they almost never put who their top-4 would be. So who would be in over Cincy assuming Cincy wins this weekend?
Georgia
Bama
Michigan
Okla State

If we're just going on records, then why have a committee at all? The retired neighbor lady could do it. The eye test is still important - and Cincy IMO doesn't pass the eye test.

So you are saying that's with a Bama win in the SEC Championship I assume?

As with so many of your posts, you're wrong. Cincy wins, and they're in. No debate.

Okie State.

If Okie St loses, wouldn't be shocked to see Ohio State sneak in there, but it would probably be Notre Dame at 11-1.

Guessing they would match Notre Dame up with Ohio State in a NY6 game.

Should be noted that the ACC has scrapped any semblance of selection order, and went to the SEC method (everybody in the pool, and the bowls/conference arrange things).

Disagree. Cincy has the sorriest schedule ever. Their only tough game was against an ND squad that had one of the softest schedules as well. Since ND played a bunch of cupcakes, it’s hard to tell how good that win from Cincy is over ND. Oklahoma State will leapfrog Cincinnati with a conference championship and Alabama will make it as long as they don’t get blown out by Georgia over Cincy.

You're wrong. 2-loss Bama isn't getting in.

The only way a 2 loss Bama gets in is with complete chaos next weekend:
UGA beats Bama
Iowa beats Michigan
Baylor beats Okie state
UH beats Cinci
