Once the automatic and contractual teams are decided, the at-larges are filled in by ranking order.

PARTICIPANTS IN THE NEW YEAR’S SIX BOWLS
Both participants in the Orange, Rose and Sugar bowls are contracted outside the playoff
arrangement (Big Ten and Pac-12 to Rose Bowl Game; SEC and Big 12 to Sugar Bowl; ACC to Orange Bowl against the highest-ranked available team from the SEC, Big Ten and Notre Dame).

If a conference champion qualifies for the playoff, then the bowl will choose a replacement from that conference. When those bowls host the Playoff Semifinals and their contracted conference champions do not qualify, then the displaced champion(s) will play in one of the other New Year’s bowls.

When not hosting Playoff Semifinals, the Cotton, Fiesta and Peach bowls will welcome the highest-ranked teams, any displaced conference champions, and the top-ranked champion from a non-contract conference. The highest-ranked available teams will fill any other berths. The selection committee will make the pairings.
The highest ranked G5 champ takes a spot as well. If Cincinnati makes the playoff I’m not sure if that satisfies the requirement or not. I feel like it would

Based on the rankings tonight, there’s not a path for OU to get ranked high enough. The only teams ahead of them(that they could pass) with a loss while not playing themselves are Iowa(13) Oregon(10) and Baylor(9). Even if they pass Iowa it doesn’t get them to a ranking for a NY6 and the other two are too far out of reach.

Plus, if they pass Baylor, they would get the Sugar Bowl.

Not sure why because we finished ahead of them and beat them head to head. We should go to the better bowl.
Didn't we get picked a couple years ago ahead of them when they had those exact factors in their favor?

NC State would be a blast. Not elite talent like Clemson, so ISU can matchup better and their ranked. Plus their a land grant, state school like us.

Anyone hearing rumblings about Kolar skipping the bowl game? Wouldn't surprise me with his body in so much pain.
Hope it's not true, but Wouldn't fault him.
Pain? Isn't he just finally healthier than he's been all season long? That is what CW and Blum alluded to on one of their recent Sunday night pods.

If he didn't play in order to not risk injury ahead of the NFL Draft I couldn't blame him.

Anyone know what bowl game scouts were at the TCU game?

K-State fans have been extra salty about Iowa State lately. They have started multiple rumors about Campbell leaving lately. Maybe they are just jealous.
We've been kicking their ass on the field and recruiting trail lately, so I get it.

JP guessing either Orlando or Houston this afternoon on KXNO during interview...

Yeah, ADJP kind of stated the other night that he and CMC both kind of like the idea of Houston because it's a January bowl and the kids could go home for Xmas, which is a first in the past few years.
