Not exactly sure.
He's literally exactly middle of the road as a big ten coach...but hasn't had the breakthrough B10 tourney run or a sweet 16 that a lot of long time .500 Big Ten coaches would have in over a decade of chances.
Kirk is basically the same. Only conference titles he has won are the shared ones when he didn’t have to play the champ of the other division or the other undefeated (usually OSU) team. Then he goes to a big bowl(tourney for Fran) and gets slapped around. He makes his living off beating the sisters of the poor and easier bowl matchups.

Even when the guys aren’t scoring they’re providing positive things everywhere else. Jones gets some grief on here but he got O Rebs and drew fouls. Played some straight up D that caused altered shots. I do think he needs to bank every free throw attempt, though.
Either that or fake injury. The other team gets to pick the replacement shooter but I'm fine with that!

This made me lol…enjoy View attachment 93094

Reading some threads now. So fun how many of them bought into the irrationally stupid 5.5 point favorite line or that our KenPom is low because it's still based on last year that was a completely different team.

You'd think they won the game just because of a bad point spread and last year's Kenpom rating.

Here's a funny gem from just before tip:

"Up to 5.5 now. Started at 3.

Lines are heavily computer generated at this point in the season. And the computers love Iowa's scoring numbers. Vegas has shown Iowa consistent love this season.

So much early line movement toward the road team indicates sharps liking Iowa tonight also. That makes sense because anyone with a pair of eyes can see that Iowa is the better caliber team"

I kind of wish KenPom would keep using last year's data all season so dumb@$$ fans of every team we played would feel they should win for no rational reason.

The reason the line did that is strictly because of all of the Metrics. The basketball nerds….which control the numbers ….favored the hawks.
The Sharps were also on that side , but they favor the Metrics as well and pounce on half points.

the botttom line is that Iowa State, in their eyes is an anomaly.
But as I said many Pages ago.
Metrics are used by Canadians
And
KenPom needs to recalibrate

Go Cyclones!

You could cut that list off right after the first one, Jeff:

This one didn't age well. The Purdue and Texas games were incredible games as well last night. It just goes to show you there's no clear cut number one team and that Texas isn't as good as advertised. This is a very good year for Iowa State to have a team that's less talented, but well coached, and be solid. That win over Iowa was never close after the first 10 minutes. Defense is absurd and we make enough shots to be able to win.

College basketball is down again...better than last year but lots of teams findimg their footing.

If ISU can maintain this sign me up either way.

Awesome win and the team continues to show the power of buy in and effort and what a great coach and staff can accomplish, even in a short time. Even sweeter that we were able to stick it to Fran and Iowa.

We already surpassed our win total from last year on our third game, so I'm happy since I didn't think this team would be very good. Right now, we look like we can keep up with most teams. The Big 12 is tough, but it looks like Texas and Kansas are beatable. Baylor looks intense, but nobody else scares me in the conference.

This team is going to be easy to fall in love with.
Hunter and Brockington said it best, "we made them uncomfortable".

I've only gotten to see a handful of games this year so far and this teams ability to make others uncomfortable is going to be epic!

A few things:

I've said it before and I'll say it again, outside of injuries ISU is a single digit seed in the tourney and please no one dumb me anymore.

With that kiss to the students it's apparent that for the last 7 years Georges Niang has been living rent free in Jblow's head. And the guy needs to get some help.

Brockington Quote. "I really wanted to be them". Yep, that's what we need, the need to want to beat the Hawkeyes. We didn't have have that in our culture under CSP.

I was glad that he scored those. He can feel good about a contribution.
When the Cyclones were breaking the press at the end of the game and Conditt got those dunks, it made me think of last Spring’s dunkfest of Oregon over Iowa. Last night’s game was over, but those dunks broke their spirit.
