Sure, I get it. It's just hard as Fred was one of my childhood idols when he was at Ames and ISU. The 1991 State Championship is one of my first sports memories. I was so excited when he "played" against us when I was at a youth basketball camp.

I've fully moved on from him as a coach or ever coming back to ISU, but it still hurts.

Last year Pearl won 16 games. It was by far his worst season in over a decade.

Fred has 19 wins and is through all but one of the buy games in year 3.

That is the difference. With the huge number of D1 teams, how bad the teams at the bottom are, and the number of buy games a power conference team has, I don't care what program you are at. If you go three seasons without breaking double figures in wins you absolutely should be fired because you have failed miserably.

This is just strange. People have identified a lot of good reasons why Fred is not successful at NU. But for him to fail this badly is shocking to me.

Fred is a good guy and a decent coach, but Nebraska is one of the bottom 10 worst P6 BBall programs of all time. He’s not the guy to change that.

they’ve never gotten players and they will never get players. You need like Bob Huggins or a Bruce Weber type to change that. And it can’t be a FCS guy like Miles, it has to be a P6 guy.

Not to mention they are the outpost of the Big 10. Recipe for no success.
