VT then TT and a heavy disk ripping gets it nearly the same as moldboarding.

Well, yeah. If you make ALL those passes. I don't know anyone where I'm at doing multiple fall passes. For example, we either rip or VT cornstalks in the fall. Neither on their own is anywhere close to moldboard. And the bean stubble is barely touched.

Not exactly sure.

NC Iowa around me is common to either chop stalks or VT them. Then do the disk ripping or moldboarding. A couple 20k + farmers around me put a middle pass of TT in this year. They normally moldboard. When I plow I don’t touch the stalks outside of hog manure. I would say my area is 70% corn. Many of us are continual.

Bean stubble is either VTd or disked.

Went out and got plenty of gas for the generator. We're better prepared than we were for the derecho. Hopefully that pays dividends. We'll hunker down and wait this one out.

We do some continual corn, and this year we either ripped the ground going back to corn or VT'd it. Never both. Some of the C/C will only get a VT pass next spring as well.

Corn going back to beans is also either either ripped or VT'd. Bean stubble is only disturbed by nitrogen application.

We haven't used a moldboard in over a decade. Haven't used a disk in nearly as long.

You have a chopping head? That seems like a lot of trash in 3-5 years if it’s not ripped regularly.

Yeah, we have a chopping head. I'd say 80% of the operations around here have a chopping head these days. It's almost eye popping to go by a corn field that was harvested without one anymore.

Getting crazy out west today.

We were right in the middle of that, looks worse than it was but wife went out to walk the dog and came flying back in the house a couple of minutes later pretty sure we were going to die.

Fortunately, only causalities appear to be deck furniture sets at this point, should be fun getting together with the neighbors and sorting that out.
