What will ISU be ranked?

I can understand the current ranking. ISU is undefeated so you have to put them somewhere. That being said, I do think they are a top 25 team... but not a top 10 team at this juncture. Time will tell.

You think? I think we’re rated what we are rated. Who is more correct here?

You may think that but our resume says we deserve to be top ten right now. We have smoked every team. Including ranked teams. So we actually deserve that ranking. The 25th spot by the one guy is silly. Our resume is way better than San Francisco who he has ranked higher

Some of our hillbilly friends to the East (no, not the mouthbreathers two hours East of here) seem to think ISU being ranked is a subconscious conspiracy.

Yes, Iowa State is such a household name in basketball....the powers that be, want us to be ranked.

We're undefeated right now, and beat some decent teams. End of story.

Boy I was worried about #9, and yes its a thing, but also we have General TJ as our coach, if anyone can rise above this its him.

First time, I think, was losing to a bad Texas Tech team in 2015

We started off the 2013/14 season 14-0, ironically beat Baylor in our first conference game at home, then lost at OU 87-82 as the #9 team. We proceeded to lose 4 of the next 5 games.

That ended up being a great season for us as we beat UNC to get to the Sweet 16, but also the tournament that Niang broke his foot. What could have been with that roster....

I feel there are other examples (in FB and MBB) but that's the first one that comes to mind.

Yeah Iowa St is a decent brand, this tweet tells us that, heard the same thing from Gameday folks about ISU football earlier this year.

We have a troubled history being at #9.

I think most is just how the season plays out

We have rarely been a true powerhouse team, so to get that high it's usually by going on a winning streak against more beatable opponents in the noncon, with a couple upsets usually mixed in. To get much higher would've required more "prove it" for pollsters, but it's pretty easy to rise to the bottom of the top 10 this time of year if you go on a win streak with all the other losses.

Eventually we run into a team that we would've lost to no matter what our rating.

Which might be the next real opponent in Baylor.
Unless, of course, we beat them...........

And looking back it also appears we were ranked #9 for the NCAA tournament that year… spooky

This being ranked thing is hilarious. We deserve it though.

Beat Baylor and we’re going to get crazy press, even east coast beat writers will start to pay attention and Otz will be the front runner for coach of the year.

ISU dropped to OU in 2002 after being ranked #9 in football, Senaca having a feature on Gameday, and proceeded to self destruct and ended up in Boise in sleet and freezing rain.

2021, ISU is on the cusp of its greatest season ever, facing down its hated rival, ranked #9, and Brock Purdy throws 3 INTs and Breece Hall fumbles and ISU goes on to finish 4th.

2014-2015 Mens Basketball ranked #9, after an unbelievable season drops against UAB in the NCAA tournament ending a season in devastating fashion.

2013-2014 Mens Basketball ranked #9 on the cusp of a final four run with Sophomore Georges Niang, Seniors Melvin Ejim and DeAndre Kane, Georges Niang breaks his foot in their first game in the NCAA tournament, and although a valiant run was made, the Cyclones ran out of gas in the sweet 16.

Take solace in that we are #8 in the coaches poll, so that should undo the voodoo that is being ranked #9. Knock on wood, fingers crossed, and skipping over the chalk on the third base line
