Have you ever been embarrassed to wear Cyclone Gear?

In Stansbury's article, both Eisworth and Campbell said not that long ago before they were here that people were embarrassed to wear a cyclone shirt or hat. I know what there trying to say but I think this comes off poorly. I've been a cyclone fan since 85-86 and I don't ever remember being embarrassed to wear anything Cyclone gear. Many times I've been disappointed or let down, but not embarrassed. I also am an alumnus so maybe that's part of the reason for me.

To me, it is kind of the pervasive attitude in society, "that nothing mattered until I showed up". I think it is somewhat disrespectful to the players and fans that have been here for awhile. Maybe its just the word embarrassed, thoughts?

Yeah, that's BS about being embarrassed to wear you ISU logo stuff. It's a bit like our WBB coach and minions never missing an opportunity to remind people how bad WBB was 30 years ago like that is somehow relevant to how the team(s) play this season.

There have been a few comments like this from Campbell that I don’t agree with and they are directly contradictory to “one of the few things we had to sell when we showed up was a loyal fan base”.

I have no doubt there is a large number of “fringe” fans that the comments could be applied to, but that’s not the foundation of Iowa State.

Back in when I was in elementary school, I’d avoid wearing Iowa State clothes on mondays after losses, mainly because of a group of hawk fan classmates who would harass me non stop for being an Iowa State fan. I got the last laugh because none of them actually ended up going to Iowa or amounted to much in their lives, except for one who saw the light and went to Iowa State.

Never.
Graduated HS in late 90’s and I would deliberately wear gear in middle school and HS just to engage Hawkeye fans in school.

I really enjoyed wearing it in college while visiting friends in IC. ISU beating them 5 straight years in football provided me plenty of material to not take banter from whomever wanted to confront me.

I think people are getting hung up on the terminology. I think what they are trying to say is solid. The program was the laughingstock of the Big 12 more years than not. That isn't the case anymore. Whether anyone was really embarrassed or not is just details.

While I don’t like the terminology, I tend to agree with this. They are using a metaphor (“embarrassed to wear the logo”) as a way to describe a bottom dweller football program.

Now…having said that, Matt Campbell knows nothing of the bottom dweller program that Dan McCarney knows of. The foundation was actually laid for Matt Campbell to build from.
