As if anyone needed any more proof that Doug Sirmons likes to dictate basketball games with his whistle, one season he called 16 more technicals than any other ref in D1 basketball.
Agreed. Coming in I thought tonight was a Longshot. Time to sweep the rest of our January games and go from there.
I’m here every game thread. This is not a hill I am willing to die on. Feel free to die on your high horse. As I mentioned before both things can be true at once. We played poorly and the refs also had a bad game. Refs are not why we lost the game, but that doesn’t make it ok for poor officiating to occur.Go back and read the game threads for every conference game. It’s the same complaints every game. It’s time people realize it’s not incompetent refereeing every game. It’s a bad combination of aggressive defense and offense that doesn’t attack that leads to foul discrepancies.
I don’t believe anyone is picking on George. He is always out of position on defense, overplays the passing lane away from the basketball and gets caught in the middle and then reaches in or somehow looses position under the basketball and then gets out rebounded by someone half his size and goes through them to get the foul. He gets a lot of fouls because he’s always in terrible position.Im not a ref hater, but certain guys seem to get away with fouls and other guys cant even breathe on a guy and get fouled. Hunter and Gabe get away with fouls somehow. And the refs are always picking on George and Kunc. The refs really hate Kunc.
Yeah we are kind of soft offensively. Aside from hunter. Brockington has a great mid range jumper but he also possesses the ability to drive and get to the rack. He has been refusing to do that so far in conference play unfortunatelyThe refs were terrible but this team doesn't welcome contact at the rim. We don't have much by way of muscle on our team.
They're too lanky. The other guys play lower and can get up into their guy
He is one of the worst. As if anyone needed any more proof that Doug Sirmons likes to dictate basketball games with his whistle, one season he called 16 more technicals than any other ref in D1 basketball.
I'm completely with you. I almost never have an issue with the fouls George gets because he, uhhh, really earns them. I love his energy but he's pretty undisciplined out there.I don’t believe anyone is picking on George. We’ll said. Tonight is also the floor of what can happen when this team gets in foul trouble and can’t hit shots. Good thing there has really only been one of them this year. When conference play started it seems most thought going 2-4 would be good based on the posts I read. That's what happened. Can't lose sight of the fact that what is happening is flat out amazing, and we are still on track for the biggest turnaround in college basketball history.
You also realize that fouls are allowed to be called outside the paint right? Just checking.

Nope. I think that officials are basically just not held to account when they're bad, and are very easily swung by either crowds or being worked by coaches. Need to be able to talk to them better/ride them more, make it clear you won't let your team get pushed around. I frankly don't know the reason or the solution. Maybe I'm conspiratorial but the wide open landscape of sports betting these days makes me feel like I would have to be naive to assume no official ever has a stake.
Again, it wasn't the deciding factor tonight. Cyclones didn't shoot well enough. Tech played better, Adams clearly has done a great job scouting ISU and knows how to make them uncomfortable on offense.
Ok, but we weren’t attacking to force those calls.
Izaiah was getting hit on the arm a ton on his pull up jumpers I noticed. You aren't going to get that call very often though. Surprised he didn't get it at least onceWere there many times ISU got Tech to foul on three point attempts?
