You can't win in the Big 12 when your starting PG and SG are hitting around 20% of their threes. Teams are starting to double team the ball handler all over the half court and not worry about giving up an outside shot.

Things I just don't understand:

1. The Offense - This high post stuff with George and Robert at the top of the key is dumbfounding. The only time George should have the ball in his hand is when he is catching a lob or grabbing a rebound. We thought Prohm's offense was bad but this offense is rivaling it, then add on that no one wants to take a shot and we have to have Gabe chuck something up before we get a shot clock violation.

Then we just pass it around the 3 point line, how about someone (anyone) drive to the basket. It opens things up - all you have to do is watch TT and TCU drive then pass to cutters for easy baskets.

But then when we do drive we get 3' from the basket we kick it out to miss a 3. TAKE THE EASY PLAY, quit making things harder than they need to be.

2. The rotation - Enuruna had 3 straight excellent defensive possessions and then we sub him out and never play him again. Jaz right now is doing nothing for us, he is WAY to passive on offense and won't shoot unless he has 10' of free space around him. The combination of Tyrese and Tre on the floor at the same time has been good, need this more.

3. The no point guard offense - Whoever had this bright idea needs to be fired asap. We did it against TT and they blew the game open. We did it in the first half against TCU and they pulled away when we did it.

4. Is TJ scared of the officials? Is there a jar that he has to put money in if he yells at the officials? I'm not saying be a maniac but when there are obvious horrible calls you need to tell the officials to pull their heads out of their asses.

5. It's ok to run off a defensive rebound, we don't have to play slow all the time, it's ok to attack.

I want a practice with nothing but Hunter driving toward a basket with wacky inflatable arm men around the hoop until he gets used to finishing at the rim. He has shown he can break down his defender on the dribble, but only once or twice does he actually go up with a rim defender.

Exactly. He's built enough that he should welcome and want contact when driving to the hoop.

He almost does better when there's someone there where he just gets the shot the way he knows how and can finish strong.

When it's more 'open' it's like he thinks too much for it and everything goes haywire.

Yeah we need to stop having our bigs get the ball at the elbow and be 0 (or even negative) threat from there.

I'd suggest practice with no shot beyond 10 feet. Then 15. Then 20 ....
Its not that complicated. D1 BB athlete over 6 foot 2 and can't make a bunny.

The amount of close shots missed that weren’t altered was crazy today, and it’s not a one-game phenomenon. We’ve got guys apparently putting crazy weird spin on the ball, or we’re just the unluckiest team in college basketball. Focus on the fundamentals and put the ball in the hoop. That’s how you win the game.

Guys, I loved non conference, it was great but also fool's gold. ISU plays defense with great effort but our talent level is pretty low. We've played above our level most of the season. We will come back to earth, I'm hoping we can make the NIT. Sounds crazy based on our start but we're so far ahead of expectations with any postseason I'll be happy with it.

i'd like to see us reinstate the back cuts. we've had good success with that when teams want to deny our swing passing.

we will not win many games when gabe and caleb shoot anything other than decent. from what i have observed, caleb is pretty okay at catching the ball on a back cut and putting it up strong. gabe actually attacks the rim pretty well. i'd like to see both of them go to that rather than be glued to the three point line when neither of them are, to put it kindly, feeling it.

i think there's no doubt tj is being outcoached right now, and will probably be the rest of the season to some extent. half of the coaches in this conference are basically living legends. it's a tough, tough league to really cut your teeth in. despite this, i think he can continue to get outcoached the rest of the year and still improve. we are not going to suddenly shoot the ball well from distance consistently so we need to figure out how to manufacture points. i thought our defensive intensity to start the 2nd half was stronger than it has been for a while--there's a way to manufacture points, for example, but only if we stop taking the first look from distance. the ball is not going to go in with any reliability.

ISU playing so well together so early was very encouraging and likely was the big contribution to them jumping on some teams.

It's almost February; other teams with simply more ability are getting their traction.

@bizzle is correct, TJ has been outcoached and probably will be in the Big 12 for the most part. Outside of great talent in this league, there are great coaches.

Agree with most but no reason to default to hope for NIT. Non conference success has put us in a great position, just need to steal some conference wins especially at home. I realize it literally seems to come down to chance and hope that a couple people makes shots in a given game, but it’s happened numerous times so why not.

Do any other conferences have this many legends and very successful modern coaches?

Yes, it has been a large pill to swallow, but reality is prevailing nonetheless. Crazy to think that the NIT would be a disappointment at this point, considering where our collective heads were at prior to the season

Hard to say. Admittedly, I can only focus on so much college basketball during the season so it is usually centered around the big 12, and maybe catching the occasional Iowa game. It does seem like the big 12 has the who's who of college head coaches top to bottom
