I will definitely take your word for it regarding this. Don't plan on ever stepping foot in that place
We were there in 2019. Cyclones led most of the game so they were pretty quiet. Last few minutes, KU found a way to the basket. That was when I discovered that the female student sitting next to me had a very high pitched screaming type of cheering. In my good ear. I could barely hear at all when we left the game.
However, despite our wearing ISU gear, the KU fans surrounding us were very nice. Far nicer than the ones I've experienced in Hilton.

Never too late. They are at least more recent than the geezer stuff they play at our high school. Highway to Hell came out when I was a senior in high school and I am old. They blast it to this day.

Back then we complained that the band director made us play “Moon River” for basketball pep band. First of all, that was recorded the year I was born and we were playing it 18 years later. Secondly, absolutely nothing about “Moon River” suggests any kind of pep.
(not gonna say ANYthing about Smoke on the Water and age...)

KU fans in general are just annoying as hell. If you've ever been to the Big 12 Tournament in KC they pack the Sprint Center and surrounding areas and it's basically another home game for them. Nearly every foul against KU is greeted with boos as if their team never commits fouls and all the gimmicks and the rock chalk chanting is just icing on the cake for reasons I loathe their fan base.
Eh, you have to feel sorry for them - the only other cheer they know is:

Kay-ay-ay-ay-U!-U!

Oh, and also that Oh-oh-oh-oh thing they do during their fight(?) song...

I think there's still some residual hoiball effecting the crowd. During hoiball, fans expected every transition and open 3 to go in, and they generally did. Not the case this year, and it deflates the crowd, even though the team is putting the effort on defense, and making more stops on that end.

Yeah, this is what I meant. I have no issue with our defensive style. But the offensive skill on this team is so low that it often deflates any momentum gained on steals.

We've also had a lot of backbreaking turnovers at home this season. Really bad passes that lead directly to wide open dunks are completely deflating.

It was actually really organic. The student section picked up that TJ would shout this out to the players and they made something out of it. Really cool actually.

You really think it sounds cool? It sounds bizarre.

Good thought, but in practice, it doesn't translate imo

I basically will root for them to lose against just about everyone and would love for them to miss the tournament just once so their fan base could experience what pretty much everyone else in the country goes through at some point. 1988-89 is the last time they missed the postseason and that was not because of their record (19-12) it was because of recruiting violations by Larry Brown resulted in a 1 year ban. You have to go all the way back to 1982-83 when they last had a losing record of 13-16 and missed the postseason. They've only lost 10 or more games in a season just 8 times after that year. You are talking about an entire generation or 2 of KU fans that have no idea what a "rough" season is in basketball. It's a good thing they completely suck in football but for the most part their fans are numb to that anymore and don't care as long as their basketball team keeps winning Big 12 titles and competing for national championships.

And don't you dare cheer for your team loudly in KC. I was told to sit down, shut up, and act like you've been here in 2019. I wasn't talking trash at all, just cheering with enthusiasm for my team in the Big 12 tournament championship. The ladies next to me were KU fans, and we had a great time. The old men behind me, not as much.

I tend to be loud and enthusiastic while watching Cyclone sports. I went to a WBB game against the Gophers at the Barn several years ago. I had some of the U of M fans looking at me askance during the game, but one Gopher fan came and shook my hand after the game and said he appreciated seeing the enthusiastic support of my team.

I'd rather have people engaged in the game, not saying they need to be buttheads.

I often wonder how people can only sit there quietly and only clap.

Maybe they're excited on the inside. It's just like when you go to a sports bar and there's that one table where everyone cheers and whistles and high fives at every play and then you have the guys at the bar sitting quietly and watching the same game. I'm one of those people who is not demonstrative, but who still gets excited watching games.

With all the wood forms that were used to pour all the concrete, I was by a wall that had about 1/2" piece of concrete that has got through the forms. I moved my arm and hit it my elbow. A couple days later, my forearm turned red and was swollen. Turns out I had bursitis. Dr said I broke the bursae sac (had to look that up) which comes from hitting something hard. That is the only thing that would have happened. Arm hurt like MF for about a week.

The Cyclone Alley chants have been super childish, even more than usual because of the total lack of creativity. F Bohannon, F KU, you suck, BS, and now we get “kill, kill, kill.” I know that’s coming from TJ but it’s idiotic. What a super environment to take a kid to. Yes, I am getting old as I actually found myself in agreement with the blue hairs in our section who have never complained about the swearing, but felt like calling something a kill was too far and a bad message to send to kids. They’re 100% right. I’m not even opposed to the occasional obscenity if we were more creative about it, but it just sounds like a childish mob of 7th graders whining right now. Also, none of those chants are actually going to get under the skin of your opponent. They’re just going to laugh at the lack of thought put in and tune you out. Scream all game and come up with something that will really bother that specific player. WV’s game sheets show actual creativity and it would be awesome for Cyclone Alley to copy that. Left right left right sit down is right up there with “let me hear your [mascot name] cheer, what’s that you say?”

Before the soapbox gives out from underneath me, calling Coleman-Lands a traitor was worthless. The guy was barely here and who would blame anyone for leaving? He held on longer than some of the others and at least considered staying. How is there any hate there? It was trying way too hard to call him that. We’re not talking an Adam Haluska situation here or even a Hinrich/Collison where top preps who left the state came back as Jayhawk stars. Hilton can be an incredible environment and both the Iowa and Baylor games were fantastic examples of that just this year, but last night was both disappointing and dumb on many levels.
I agree, a guy being here one year then a coaching change doesn't really constitute a traitor chant. Plus Enaruna came here from Kansas.

LMAO "kill" is a term used in freakin volleyball.
I believe he is aware of that.

Maybe we can yell dribble at volleyball games
Dribble, Dribble, Dribble?

One thing you could have done was stand up every time the kid behind you screamed in your ear. Eventually Dad is going to say something to you about his kid not being able to see, and you can just say that his kid screaming in your ear is causing you physical pain and you are standing to get away from the source of the pain. Then it is him doing the confronting, not you, but you get your point across.
I was thinking this also. If the 'perpetrator' is right behind you, just stand up frequently during the game, so he/she can't see. Or get a pact with fellow fan who has the perp behind them.

Joe Walsh opened for Stevie Nicks. He was awesome and then she came out wasted and brought it all down. I’m pretty sure it was his birthday as well. He should have been wasted.
That is correct

I first saw it on Twitter a couple of home games ago, I think the MBB account. Two players held the signs and explained it. It was definitely planned and executed. And, yes, I really don't like the student crowd yelling kill, kill, kill. A little because it's bizarre, mostly because they seem to focus all their energy on that instead of the regular cheering/shouting they usually do well at.

What Eastwood western had the arrogant Jayhawker family? Clint said something like they don't look too proud now as the family is being drug behind the wagons in the desert. That comes to mind every time I have to hear a KU fan. Seems to make it more tolerable.
