A season after... Does Melvin Ejim's jersey still deserve to be in the rafters?

Jersey hangings should only happen for generational talents. I'll be down voted to hell but I really think the only generational talent that stuck around long enough to make a big difference was Georges
If you included Monte, I’d be right there with you.

I won't throw a fit if ISU ever does it, but when I think of Iowa State all time greats, Ejim doesn't come to mind. GREAT Cyclone, and example of what a student athlete should be. But hanging a jersey for a guy that averaged 12.2 PPG in his career seems a little silly.

Ejim's senior year was great, but you're kidding yourself if you don't see that even though he led the team (and Big 12) in PPG, he was the third scoring option behind Kane and Niang. Fred said himself after Niang went down that he had half his plays for Kane and half for Niang and had to scrap the Niang plays. He also had the 48 point game inflating his stats, in which has half his points were stat padded dunks with everyone looking to get him the ball.

I want to be clear if he ever gets his jersey hung, I'll be happy for him and will watch the ceremony and cheer loudly for him. But since the start of the Hoiberg era, it's Niang, then Monte, then Ejim for priority in getting jerseys hung in the rafters.

Downvote away!

I personally would prefer a Hall of Legends, or something of the likes, instead of retiring any jerseys. Or hang the jerseys but don’t retire the number.

FWIW, Mel is still featured in one of the murals on the outer concourse wall, SE corner or thereabouts. I agree about not retiring the numbers - eventually you run out of numbers. ;)

I would like to see several more honored with jerseys up there, for sure.
