A season after... Does Melvin Ejim's jersey still deserve to be in the rafters?

It’s because those two are obvious no doubters. Ejim is more on the borderline side. There is no debating Morris and Niang, we just have to wait the stupid 10 years now.

I do think that they need to revise the rules to hang jerseys. Getting a degree shouldn't be a requirement any more. Times have changed to where if you are a really good player, you probably aren't staying 4 years. To me, Fizer, Tinsley, Niang and Morris are no-brainers. Ejim is borderline and I can see both sides of the argument. I just think that he's closer to Stinson and Sullivan than he is the four guys I mentioned.

If Ejim transferred after his Junior year he would be a forgotten man. The fact that there are fans who can’t tell the difference between a Morris/Niang career and Ejims is sad.

We would forget the guy who was the conference POTY? How many Cyclones have won that award?

Edit: the answer is 5: Thompson, Abdul-Aziz, Fizer, Tinsley, Ejim.

Personally I like how UNC does retired numbers and honored numbers. There is a clear description for each scenario. The problem with ISU is that there is no clear way to get to a retired or honored jersey number. It’s all seems arbitrary and that’s dumb

Here is what UNC does. I know I know, F Roy.

One of these criteria must be met to qualify for a retired jersey at UNC:
Associated Press Player of the Year; Naismith College Player of the Year; John R. Wooden Award; Sporting News Player of the Year; Oscar Robertson Trophy, formerly USBWA National Player of the Year; National Association of Basketball Coaches Player of the Year

One of these criteria must be met to qualify for an honored jersey at UNC:
Member of a gold medal-winning Olympic team; MVP of a National Championship-winning team; First- or second-team All-America; ACC Player of the Year; NCAA Tournament MOP

General Q, this reminds me, I'm sure it has been addressed previously (this thread or elsewhere), but does ISU have specific rules for jersey honors, at all? Or just vague? I know the "must have degree" thing comes up (mainly regarding players like Fizer), but is that an actual rule?

Not sure, but I guarantee if they do, it is still very subjective. It’s not “if this happens then you are in” it’s more like “if this happens then maybe, if we like you, you can get in”

Wait you meant transferred out? I assumed you were alluding to the fact that he was a 4 year guy helping his status and thought you meant transferred in.

I guess if that’s your argument then have at it.
My point is he had a largely forgetful career until his senior year. While he had a good year His outbreak offensively was mainly due to how good Kane and Niang were at facilitating with the defense focused on them. Watching Ejim against UConn without Niang was painful.

10pts 7.5 rbs is very forgetful lol Also mega butterfingers
That's a really strange what-if. The thing is he didn't transfer, and he was a conference player of the year, 2nd team AA, something guys with jerseys in the rafter didn't accomplish.

For some reason ISU fans seem to think a lot less of Ejim than national/conference media and coaches.

What if Hoiberg had transferred after his So. season? 11 and 6 is pretty forgettable. Or Monte - 12 and 5 (A) is pretty forgettable.

What? Do you know how to read?

The logic of "If he transfered after his junior year" might be the dumbest arguement in the history of the internet. We can play that game with any player we have ever had. What if Georges Transfered after his freshman year. What if Monte Transfered. It's such a stupid Debate. He didn't transfer. He is one of our top players ever.

Yeah, so was his 19-4-2-2-1 against UNC the game prior.

Seriously? Didn't realize they were also All Americans who won Big 12 player of the year along with Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year and an Academic All American. Oh , three NCAA tourneys ,a Big 12 Title and Sweet 16 to go on top of it . Guess I missed Sullivan and Stinson. I was too pumped about their NIT run to remember any of that.

Niang was 3rd team big 12. Ejim was POTY. Kane was 1st team. No, Niang didn't carry that team. Ejim and Kane carried that team.

Just saw Bill Self already announced that Agbaji's Jersey will be retired. I wish there were more concrete answers on why there hasn't been any movement on ISU hanging any other jersey's. Who makes the decision?

Just realized that there have been more recent women that have had their jersey's retired than men. Makes no sense.

At Kansas if you are Conference PoY or a 1st Team All American then you will have you jersey hung in the rafters and it's just a matter of getting through the backlog of players in line ahead of you and coordinating schedules. They are still trying to get the calendars aligned to honor Thomas Robinson for his 1st Team AA season in 2012.

I have no idea why ISU wouldn't hang a jersey for Ejim. He won Big 12 PoY which I would assume makes him one of the 10 most decorated ISU players ever. Why you wouldn't have a ceremony and acknowledge that is a mystery.
