Marinelli is the best chance for Iowa
Marinelli's problem is he has become a complete counter wrestler against the good competition. The nickname, the bull, doesn't fit him very well anymore.
Personally, I think the MFF scuttlebutt is blown way out of proportion. I do think any MFF when the wrestler steps onto the mat should count as a L on their record against that specific opponent which would hurt their win %. Everyone that MFF's out is also getting "hurt" by not winning a tourney or match that I'm sure they had a goal to win. For everyone comparing this to a whole team that MFF out is just silly. The comparison is closer to LeBron or Aaron Rogers taking some games off to get healthy for the playoffs. People get mad because they might pay good money for tickets to see those stars in that game/event but at the end of the day every true fan would rather have a Championship than to see them win a regular season game. Even if they have to sacrifice a undefeated season to get the crown. Many are acting like Iowa would have won the conference tourney had these guys wrestled. I don't think any of them improved or protected their National Seeds by MFF. Maybe someone can give me an example of someone who protected a seed by MFF that had they truly lost the match(es) would have been effected differently.
I can't stand Marinelli. All he did against Amine was push him out of bounds (with no shot taken) and then look at the ref asking for a stall warning/call. That's more of stall tactic as someone who is backing up looking for a re-shot (like RBY) or someone who wrestles from a knee (like Biscoglia). He won that match taking zero offensive shots IIRC. Degen get's criticized a lot for not being offensive but he is always trying foot sweeps, arm drags, or slide-by's. The ref should have at least called a double stall since neither guy was actually trying a offensive attack.
You are missing the point. When Rodgers or lebron take a game off, their team pays the price by taking an L on their record. When Eierman doesnt want to wrestle Nick Lee, he avoids taking a L. When Cassioppi doesnt want to wrestle Gable, he doesnt take a L. They are gaming the system and taking the spirit out of competition. Wrestle or dont wrestle, but dont game the system by avoiding harder competition in the same tournament you already wrestled. This isnt sitting out a dual meet to rest up.
Kemmerer MFF to 6th place (Fisher and Labriola). Since he MFF, he will likely now get a 5th seed at Nationals.. Change one or both of those matches to a loss, and he would probably drop to 8 or 9.
Real Woods and Alirez/coaches want to be able to argue they should get a top 3 seed over guys who are too injured to take the mat and avoid losses. Those guys want on the opposite side of Nick Lee.
I get your point and agree that it should be an L. I even stated in my second sentence that they should take the L on their record. I guess I don't think it's going to effect seeds at all. Even if the MFF was a L. Example: Cassioppi beats Kerkvliet in the Big 10 Semis and IF he wrestles & loses to Gable in the finals. I think he should be the 2 seed because Kerk beat Paris (common opponent) in the 3rd place match. IF he MFF to Gable I still think he should get the 2 seed. I'm not saying I like that he MFF'd or that I endorse the action.
Woods/Alirez coaches can argue all they want. However arguing is pointless IMO unless you have actual results against common opponents. Alirez doesn't have any win's against the Big 10 other than Chad Red and Red didn't help him out because he had a bad Big 10 tourney. Same can be said for Woods (no quality wins against Big 10 opponents). Plus Woods has two MFF's L of his own according to Wrestlestat website.
Again, I hope they change it to an L against that opponent and it goes on their record. I just don't think it's going to have any effect on the NCAA seeding.
Don't know how he gets that as I would put Massa and Labriola ahead, as they have super solid cases for it. Then you have Starrocci who is the one seed and Lewis is definitely the two, and Hidlay is above Kemmerer as well. I think he is 6 at best.

MFF should drop the guy to the lower part of a tier of wrestlers.

Then it's officially a cluster with Labriola having the win over Kem in the dual. Starocci is the 1, then there's an argument for 2/3 between Massa and Lewis, Hidlay has an argument for the 4, but so do the other 3. Crazy weight.
He he to beat Star at some point. His path is way harder now though you are right. He’s one of the few Iowa guys I like. Maybe dumb and dumber know they aren’t smart enough to beat Cael in the finals but they might pull it off in the semis. Smart
A not healthy Kemerer might not get past Hidlay. Actually I'm probably picking Hidlay in that match considering the injury.
5th as I assumed he would be. That's how the MFF benefits wrestlers. That said, Kem did pop his shoulder out and certainly had reason to MFF. It is just an example of how they can also benefit.
