Imho to be successful Otz will have to find guys that can SHOOT with some players like Marcus Fizer mixed in to compete in the Big12. We don't have that right now.

Someone that can consistently hit shots is priority number 1, 2, and 3. Nothing else is in the same realm.

Lipsey is not going to play above the rim. He is not going to hit 35% or better from three.

His athleticism is elite. Elite elite. That is not a question. His ball handling and passing is elite. Elite elite. That is not a question. His work ethic is elite. Elite elite. That is not a question.

Space out the floor, and I promise you Tamin will be able to compete with anyone one on one. He will score if you let him get to the rim unless you double him or foul him.

His struggles come when the opponent has a 7 footer standing under the rim. He will have that at Iowa State. He will have the awareness and IQ to pass to the open man if he’s doubled. Whether that man scores based on what we’ve seen at Iowa State the last few years is another story.

Also worth noting, I’m not expecting Lipsey to start next year.

But there have been times this year when I’ve thought it would be beneficial to have him on ball, Hunter and Brockington on opposite wings, Enaruna and Kunc in opposite corners, and just having him drive and distribute. Hell of a lot better than whatever the **** we’ve been rolling out in March

Otz absolutely needs a big who can shoot. It’s the biggest weakness this year, especially since they continue to run the high ball handoff. If the big can’t shoot it’s very easy to defend.

Not sure what the relationship is between IHSSN and IHSAA but if they are separate entities then there is a contract between IHSSN & IHSAA. So the decision by IHSSN to charge for previously live-streamed games has been approved by IHSAA as part of their financial arrangement.

IHSSN bought all the broadcast rights. They can do with it what they please.

Fair, Athletic can be defined by wide variety of ways I probably should of used quick. He’s not a blow by pg or going to play above the rim. Definitely not un-athletic. Tyrese Hunter is super athletic in my mind and I am sure you can see the difference.
Now that none of us need to worry about driving down to KC, I encourage you and any other Cyclone fan to drive to Des Moines and spend the $10 to watch him play tonight.

“Not athletic”? The guy returned punts for TDs as a freshman. Just awesome to watch back then when he played football. I think he might have set a few more Ames High records his junior year playing QB.

Aright let’s have a discussion . Have probably watched 5 full games and highlights. I am glad he is a cyclone. Love the defense, physical, good body, handles, definitely agree with basketball IQ.
But, will he help us offensively, he is not a shooter, not super athletic, will his strengths translate to the big 12 . My fear is he can be a nice role player as ceiling and feels like that might be our entire class. Probably means run some people off current team and hit transfer portal.
The main thing we need is another guy who can beat people off the dribble and then find the open man. Hunter is really the only guy doing that on this year's squad. If Tamin can do that, he'll make everyone around him better.

He is very athletic, just not an above the rim guy. He absolutely has Big 12 quickness. He was the best pure ball carrier in the state as a QB as a Jr. that was coming off a knee injury as well.

Understands the game, never gets rattled, and loves playing D. Has a good looking shot but he isn’t a good 3p shooter yet. Very patient. Maybe too patient and defers too much at times. Has great hands and likes physical play and contact. Probably gambles for steals too much and picks up an occasional unneeded foul because of it.

People need to keep in mind as a recruit he is ranked as a guy that will probably be a role player for a couple years at least. He had a ton of buzz and was thought to be a higher recruit when he was younger. Some of that was missing his So season, but most was because he was a big kid as an 8th and 9th grader and there was some thought he might grow a few inches. Didn’t happen. He’s still a good basketball player that is going to buy in and help this team for 4 years.

Kind of off base here but is 4A still the largest class in the state? I think there is 5A for football now. I've lost track with the shuffling of schools and leagues and such.

I think it's a worthwhile discussion to have. I feel like Lipsey is going to start out as a solid backup PG. It's pretty obvious that a lot of guys on this year's team are going to be gone...and that's not a bad thing. IMO Lipsey can be a solid ball handler and defender. He can come in when Hunter needs a rest and not turn the ball over and not get destroyed off the dribble. Any points he gets is a bonus. Down the line, I could see him starting once he gets used to the college game and develops his shot some. I do think that he has a nice little pull up jumper that will translate well.

Eli King IMO will be a second Caleb Grill with a little better handle. A little better getting by guys and converting in the lane, maybe not as good of an outside shooter right away. I feel like he comes off the bench this first year, but he has a high upside down the line.

Watson looks to be a developmental player to me. He has an outside shot and some athleticism, but he will need to add muscle to play much. But it wouldn't surprise me if he gets there in a few years.

Tre King seems to me to be similar to Enaruna, but with a more refined offensive game. I think that he can play some small ball 5 or be kind of a stretch 4.

I believe that they need to hit the transfer portal hard. Do what TT did and find some mid major guys that want to move up. If they can get AJ Green to come in and play SG, great. If they can talk Brockington into coming back, even better. I do not believe that they can win many games with Jones starting at the 5 or Kalscheur starting at the 2. That's just too many guys who are limited offensively getting minutes. They need to find a big that can rebound, defend and has some post moves and a wing that can score. If TJ can somehow put together a team of Hunter at the 1, Green at the 2, Brockington at the 3, King at the 4 and a transfer big at the 5, then come in with a second team of Lipsey, Kalscheur, Eli King, Grill and Jones, then we have a team that can compete.

I tried to watch the 1A game on IHSSN, I have Hulu. I've watched games through their network before but today I couldn't log in. After giving up on reseting my password I discovered KDSM wasn't blocked as in years past.
