Im really surprised Richmond got a 12 seed. I know they won their tourney but 13 probably made more sense in place of SDSU/Chattanooga/Vermont

13 probably is more accurate based roughly on NET numbers. But I wonder how much of an impact there was from having A-10 tournament on Sunday -- so the rest of the bracket probably was mostly in place, so rather than move a bunch of parts maybe putting Richmond at 12 was simplest. VT won ACC on Saturday so there was more time to shift it.

EDIT: Just thought of this -- Dayton and SMU were listed as first two out -- so committee must have had Dayton slotted on 12 line and planned to swap if Richmond won.

Dayton would have been a scary 12 seed.

This sounds correct, the Chairman of the Selection committee hinted at this on Sunday when they asked him about Dayton being the last team out.

On Sunday, Dayton couldn't have been slotted on the 12 line that Richmond took. Since they were knocked out of the A-10 tournament by Richmond on Saturday, they would have been slotted in one of the play-in games as one of the last at-larges. Richmond's win on Sunday had to have shifted more things around, because they can't be in a play-in game as a conference winner (except 16-seeds of course). Specifically, someone else got bumped to a play-in game and that bumped Dayton out.

Also, I'm probably the only member of this board that's also a Richmond fan. I'm a MUCH bigger ISU follower, but Richmond is my #2 team since I went to grad school there and still live 10 minutes from the campus. They have some super-seniors with a lot of experience and a pretty good coach. They definitely struggled more than I expected them to early in the year, but they've been playing really well lately. I watched every game in the A-10 tournament, and while I don't expect them to beat Iowa, I wouldn't be shocked if they pull it off.

Good point. I didn't take into account having to arrange due to auto-bid/First Four placements.

Here are some teams I think will burn me this year:

Memphis (the 8/9 games are always toss ups, but I have picked them over Boise in each bracket I've made so far)

Michigan/Colorado St (I can't make up my mind here. Michigan's resume is lame, but I also think Colo St is overseeded. I'm about 50/50 on my brackets with the winner losing next round anyway).

Arkansas (Trendy upset pick v.s. Vermont, but I can't bring myself to do it. Which should be enough to tell you that it will probably happen).

Michigan State, Ohio State, insert marginal Big 10 team here (I haven't picked a lot of Big 10 winners in round one, at least amongst team seeded 6th or lower, which means probably a banner year for that conference).

Texas Tech (they say defense travels, but they also say refs call games differently in the tournament than in the regular season. Tech will either run into a buzzsaw officiating crew or make a run to the Final 4 is my guess. I am banking on the latter happening in most brackets).

Baylor (Team seemed weird down the stretch, and you just wonder how healthy they are. I could see them being the first 1-seed to lose, and I don't have them advancing past the Elite 8 in any of my brackets. Watch them repeat as champs now).

Auburn (I have them going to the Elite 8 or even Final 4 in a lot of brackets. Some of it is me believing they are really good, and some of it wishful thinking that hopefully they can beat the Hawkeyes in the Elite 8. Have had a lot of people tell me they are fools gold for this tourney).

I could go on, but those are the heavy hitters

Kansas. Bill Self has a gift for choaking and his teams always under performs in the tourney.

Big game Bill is trying to steal that title away from big game Bob.

Iowa State. I can't think of a single example of a time when we outperformed our seeding by more than one game. Maybe someone else can. Seems like they never get lucky and go on a longer run than expected.

Yet I still pick them one or two games farther than I should. Every single time...
