8:30 Central Time on Friday. The men’s game starts at 8:59. Go figure.

Called this in another thread.

It makes perfect sense from the TV exec perspective. ESPN does what's best for ESPN. On the men's side, Turner/CBS do what's best for Turner/CBS.

Well that is a poopy mess. 16 freaking teams left and they didn't get the games staggered.

I wonder if they will do "live look-in's" of the Women's game for the crowd at the United Center?

The NCAA has nothing to do with TV times. The networks drive that. The fact that ESPN was so accommodating the first two rounds to ISU is amazing
Accommodating? Why would ESPN and the NCAA want the games at the same time. It definitely hurt ticket sales at Hilton and it most likely has hurt tv ratings as well. I’d like to think if we were on opposite days Hilton could have been sold out. That’s a decent chunk of change the NCAA left on the table forcing people to chose.

The games overlapped, but could of easily been at the same time as ISU worked with ESPN to make sure they were not.

The dates played are something set years before the tournament is played so the venues can prepare.

It probably did hurt ticket sales a bit, but the networks wouldn't get a cut of that money anyway, so that wouldn't be a factor for them when scheduling.

Regarding TV viewers, I doubt it amounted to more than a drop in the bucket. The men's tournament games draw a national audience. The number of Cyclone fans who might have tuned out in favor of the women's game wasn't likely to be enough to matter.

I have this wonderful feature on my cable remote that allows me to rewind and watch things that I may have missed. I will watch the earlier tip game and upon completion switch, rewind, and watch the entire second game, skipping the commercials of course. I did this on Sunday and watched the entirety of both games. The ability of skipping commercials (when i actually remember to skip them :) ) even allowed me to catch up and watch the women's game live shortly into the second half.

If the Carolinas game goes long and KU doesn’t, they could virtually the same time. That said, I think there’s a better chance KUs game goes long, so could be better separation.

I was more talking the other way around. How many people didn’t watch the womens game because it was on during the mens game. Iowa State is going to be one of your better draws due to support on the womens side and they didn’t give people the opportunity to watch.

Mens dates are set long in advance and the women's regionals are too but I don’t believe the womens first round games are since the locations are not even set.

On a microscale it's dumb as you are losing viewership to your networks. On a macroscale it probably doesn't matter to anyone outside of Cyclone Nation.

It sucks.

But so far it’s worked for us. I say bring it snd let’s get two teams into the Elite 8 on Friday.
