You either
A. Hit 3 wood a lot further than me
Or
B. Play a lot tighter courses than me

edit: or both

:D

My rescue 3 (21 degree) goes about 240 on average, longer if I really catch it flush. My (new) regular 3 goes 250-270, but is inconsistent. My driver is really inconsistent (usually fades badly, but sometimes results in a snap hook when I overcompensate), which is why I'm looking at irons first.

So…I hit some Srixon’s (both 5’s and 7’s) next to my old Callaway’s today. Dear lord. I need the Srixon’s in the bag.
I got them this season. 5&6 are the ZX5. 7-PW ZX7. Probably the right move but I prefer the ZX7 for sure.

That makes sense.

If you are consistently hitting 3 wood 250+ and finding fairways, just as well keep the shaky driver in the bag.

What are you looking at for irons? I got fitted in early spring and it was a game changer for my iron game.

I'm not sure on the irons, lol. Been reading too many articles. My previous set and current set are both Clevelands, and I've really liked them. Both were kind of base grade though, so I want to boost it up a little bit, while staying in the game improvement range. Looked at the newest Cleveland sets, plus the Callaway Apex (but the latter might make my wife choke on the price). I really should get fitted this time, as I haven't done that before.

Go ahead and laugh, this old man still carries his Ping Zing 2 3 thru pitching wedge and enjoys them.

I was hoping to upgrade my iron set next year from the Mizuno MX-19s to who knows what. Might try to get fitted for something and test out a ton before buying anything.

Thinking about pulling the trigger this weekend.

ZX5: 4 - 6
Zx7: 7 - PW

All with Golf Pride Align grips. Standard for the Zx5’s, but midsize for the Zx7’s.

Just got a fitting done tonight as a s***-tier golfer. Here's the spec sheet:
Cobra LTDx LS 9° (adjusted +1°), 3W 15°, 3H 19°, all with Project X HZRDUS Smoke 6.0 Stiff
Mizuno JPX921 Hot Metal 5-PW,GW,SW, with Pro Modus Stiff. Shortened a quarter-inch and lie angle raised up 2 degrees.
Still need: putter

Also tried: Callaway, TaylorMade, Ping. TM Stealth Driver/3W were similar performers to Cobra. Cobras are a touch cheaper. Didn't hit any of the Callaways or Pings well. Also went into it thinking I would get separate wedges, but in this case and at my skill level, thought it made sense to order them as part of the iron set (which also was a touch cheaper).

A couple mizuno sets entering the chat. Have always wanted mizuno irons. For as long as I can remember. They look so damn sharp, and have forever. I just can’t hit them as well as other irons, so they have always come up short for me.

@Cydkar …I have the Srixon’s on the way. Should be here in the next couple weeks.

I should've tried Srixons today, I left realizing I never swung any. But I'll be damned if the Mizunos weren't consistent for me on the simulator, I thought it was rigged. Fitter told me he's sold a ton of Mizuno sets to many happy customers.

I'm a little concerned the LTDx LS is too high-skill of a club for me, who has never broke 90 before, but I was hitting it really well on the sim.

Multiple Tour players have abandoned equipment contract $$$.

They want to play what they like, not what they have to.

I was talking to someone else about that, Frankenstein bags are the thing for pros now. Some even play some GI-type clubs for certain things, not just solely pro-level sticks.

Oh, also, I got some DriTac grips for the irons. Should I get the same grips on the Cobras as well?

Got a set of Taylormade Sim2Max irons last fall and got just enough rounds in to get somewhat comfortable with them. When hit well, I'm getting about a club's more distance out of them, and I'm still trying to figure out which ones to hit in different scenarios. Still using my Cleveland 52 and 58 though.

I always wanted Mizuno irons as well. Finally sold my Titleist 690MB irons and went with the Mizuno JPX 919 forged. I’ve only got 1 round with them. They felt great so far.

The Srixons are nice. The ZX5’s would be good for long irons but I wouldn’t like a full set of them. I would have love try the ZX7 but im left handed and they didn’t have them to demo for me.

I also ran into the "lefty, so less demos" problem. Fun stuff.
