"Ok-, let's just go 15 miles up the road, take steve out to a catfish restaurant and call it a national search, yeah that's what Murray State deserves right? I'm sure that's why so many other schools are burning up his phone seeking his coaching abilities. If people keep thinking of our program as mid-major, that's what we will always be. If they hire him and he does well, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong."
I’ve got news for that guy; you are a mid-major. A coaching hire isn’t going to change that.

Why did I think he got a one-time lump sum payment of $5 million when he was relieved of his coaching duties? Thought I read that in a report...maybe I am thinking of another coach? If so, that would mean he would be free to take any position and not worry about compensation in regards to Iowa State. And in turn, he would be off the Iowa State books.

Would be great if he gets to go back there again. I have no ill will towards Steve or McDermott like some here seem to have. Both are class act guys that represented ISU well and run clean programs. It's unfortunate that both could never have the success at ISU that we had hoped they would have but we've already seen with McDermott and Creighton and his previous stop at UNI that Greg is a good coach and that sometimes guys like him and Steve may not be a good fit at a place like ISU but at another school their system works and they can be successful.

I support both guys while they were here, I was glad for Greg when he took the Creighton job as the writing was on the wall he was probably going to get fired here and I knew we had no choice but to fire Steve after last year's mess too. So far it's worked out well for Greg and ISU with TJ now and I hope that Steve gets to have his success story at his next job wherever that may be.

I hope it works out for CSP and Murray, but I have doubts. Maybe just getting a couple dudes and rolling the ball out puts you top half of that league, even with all his other shortcomings as a coach. It sure af wasn't enough to work here. But if he is even just average there, combined with being a good person, he would make a good steward for that program.

Also note that this is the Bizarro version of ISU offering Fred to come back: great success, left for bigger show, failed miserably, returns.
