"I can't believe people care about this thing I'm taking time out of my morning to read and post about."

You posted making fun of people who are interested in this news, then did the decent thing and wished him well, then deleted that, and now you're back to making fun of people.

woah woah woah.. i never deleted anything. but way to go back and edit your post adding that 2nd sentence!

people really care about prohm around here

first i said this

then i posted the video

then i said i'd miss out on some of the stupid sh*t that people will post. never once made fun over anyone either. unless of course you think saying people post stupid sh*t is "making fun of them"

Call me a skeptic but he highly benefitted from having two NBA point guards at Murray State his first go around. One was an experienced carryover from the previous coach who stayed two more years. The other was drafted #14 after two years. There was no gap.
In that league, such players are quite rare and a big reason for the success. Is he finding those guys again? And, jumping up a league, he's going to need pieces around them even if he is fortunate enough to land them. He's also entering a league as a geographical outsider, so recruiting will add some wrinkles too.
I wish him the best and hope he succeeds bc he does it the right way and wants to develop more than just ball players. I can see where he's going to have to grow as a coach though to find new successes given the challenges cited above.
The tradition of landing good guards continued long after Prohm left Murray. You ever hear of Ja Morant? The barometer will only continue to rise in the MVC. They will probably annually compete for 1st place in that league right away.

you're right but Greg's situation is insanely unique. He not only got a job a very good mid major with stronger support (the NCAA can prove just how strong)than the majority of p6 schools, they play in a sports crazy city, had an NBA style arena, his under the radar son blew up to the NPOY, they moved up to a p6 conference...I think Greg can coach and he's proven himself the last 7 or 8 years but it's hard to imagine the stars aligning any more for someone than they did for him.

I also don't think people really realize exactly how good a program Creighton has been the last 25 years and how well Omaha supports them. When they were still in the Valley, they had advantages no other mid major had, including Gonzaga. It's been a great job for decades.
Not discounting anything you stated but they are a freakishly extreme outlier in their conference. Definitely doesn’t make that job any easier.

Prohm is really well suited for Murray for all of the obvious reasons plus his connections to the southeast and the Midwest from his time here. With Murray joining the MVC, he knows enough to be dangerous recruiting north and west from his campus, but he is also comfortable going south and east (like he did here which wasn't a good fit).

Prohm at Murray could become the top MVC program and it would not surprise me at all.

Yeah, I know his connections were in the SE, but it never made sense for ISU to recruit there. Any player good enough to go to ISU was going to have SEC offers and we were going to have a hard time pulling any of them out of the south. At Murray, he has a decent name (due to Morant, etc) and a location advantage. He can take the kids that the SEC passes on and do pretty well. Plus, he can get up into Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Chicago if he wants. Seems like a pretty good situation for him. I think that he'll be competitive in the Valley fairly quickly, if not right away.

To this day I don't understand how they got an invite to the Big East. Possibly the worst geographical fit in college sports. Nevertheless, they do compete.

Heard an interview with the Big East commissioner the other day. He was asked why Big East invited Butler (non-Catholic) when they could have made a good league of all Catholic schools. He answered that their long-term strategy was to be in big cities with schools that had access to major arenas. They wanted Indianapolis (Butler) instead of another Catholic school with a campus arena. He wasn't particularly talking about Creighton, but I imagine the same logic applied. Omaha + CHI Health Arena.

PS - Best wishes, Steve. Happy for you.

It's because its a Jesuit school. When the Big East Broke off to Basketball only the school that broke off were mainly Jesuit and other Catholic schools. There was 9 that broke off They added Creighton and Xavier as other Jesuit school. St. Louis University was an obvious 3rd target to get to 12, but they added Butler instead. Another private school, not Catholic but certainly at the level with recent NCAA success to get an upgrade to Big East

Cross posted, but still Surprised St. Louis University didn't get considered, same large city/Arena. But SLU has had decent basketball success, but not like Xavier, Creighton, and Butler. I guess for that matter Loyola Chicago could have been another target, but they also only recently had basketball success. They would love to get to Big East, but are happy joining Atlantic 10 with St. Louis University as well as a step up from MVC

I wonder if he would try and poach guys like Tre Jackson or Jaden Walker.
"Poach" is a loaded word, but I would be shocked if and least one of those guys didn't transfer and they would both do really well at Murray State.
I imagine TJ will want more transfers for next year in addition to the freshmen coming in, and playing time for guys at the end of the bench will be harder to come by.

Then I apologize if I made a mistake. Regardless, it's annoying and drags down the conversation to come in here and bag on people for caring about a well-liked former coach, particularly as you're participating in the thread.

Big East has got Chicago covered with DePaul.
