Have not been following last couple of days. Sounds like guy with original tweet retracted, but this still has legs. Is he officially gone?

Those with hundreds of millions of dollars are not foolish investors. NIL payments of a million to kids coming out of HS is foolish.

How many Iowa State Donors have hundreds of millions that they will donate and not give a care?

People that rich aren't pouring money into athlete's pockets as an investment. They are pouring money into their pockets because they want their team to win. They don't care what it costs. Plus, it sounds like it's going to turn into a tax write off type of system anyway.

Reading between the lines a bit here but having to do communication through a former high school coach doesn't appear to be a positive development.
or waiting until the beginning of the work week when all the college/NCAA people are back in the office

Not officially (an announcement may come later today), but Chris and Brent said on last night's podcast they expect him to go.

How many Iowa State donors like that do we have?

Thanks for attempting to get this thread "back on track." I appreciate the different opinions on NiL, but I am more interested, at the moment, on what is happening with Tyrese & his personal reasons for likely leaving ISU.
There’s nothing to know at this point because there hasn’t been any news

Sorry, but I'm not going to donate to athletes who are already getting a free ride and then some at Iowa State. Better and more important things to do with my money.

I would imagine it's a much tougher sell to a booster. Funding a project where the physical effects can be enjoyed for decades? Sure. Putting together money for a buyout so we can get a new coach who will hopefully be here for several years? Ok. Pulling together $750,000 for one season of basketball? That's tough.

Well, I'm participating in the derailment as much as anyone. The truth is there just isn't that much hard news to share so we fill the void with...whatever this is.

I think this is a good analogy. Almost no one cares if the Iowa Cubs win, it's just the experience.

The same way I used to watch Iowa State football to be honest. We knew we were going to get killed. We went to play football with our brothers during tailgate, we went to tailgate but knew we were going to get murdered on the field. College sports are done except at the blue blood level. Not worth it anymore. If I wanted to watch Pro's, I would watch the pro's.

That's the thing though, if they don't win it wasn't a good return on their investment.

Except the "new" news in the post I quoted (from Trice) - hence why I posted a response. Again, I am not griping at people discussing NiL - just excited that some new news was posted that relates directly to the topic of the thread.

I'm guessing JP managed to get some sort of donor help to fund the $5 mil to get rid of Prohm. Surely, we could find the donor help to fund $1 mil to keep Tyrese.
I was reading this thread and I don't know if that is something I want JP to have to try to coordinate. his role should be to cultivate donors for ISU specifically (and i get it.....Tyrese helps ISU athletics)....i mean, if he could get a quick million there are probably LOTS of things that could benefit the BBall program vs one player.

In that regard as I read this thread, i just don't feel donors/fan bases should have to pay for the gap that has been created...that is an issue with the NCAA, schools, NIL, state law, etc.

Most of these rich donors own businesses so they just throw it into Advertising expense already.

All it takes is one blown knee in an offseason workout and a donor will never make that "investment" again. It's not sustainable for anyone to have booster giving so closely tied to a single player's compensation.

People who thought NIL wasn’t the end of college athletics were fools. That can be good or bad depending on your perception of it but that was always going to be the end result. College sports fans aren’t rational. And that includes the ones with money to spend.
