My wife produced without issues too, but it was a drain on her, she went a year. The hassle of doing it at work, and storing it, rotation, was one thing. The bigger downside for her was that she just had a hard time keeping her calorie intake high enough. She said that she felt like she was in a constant brain fog, and that she didn't even realize it until she stopped.
Totally agree on the brain fog. Was ok on my older two, but my younger three were close enough in age that they all were in high school together for one year. I had a little break in nursing between kid 3 and 4 but nursed 4 while pregnant with 5. I thought it was the lack of sleep, but it persisted until I stopped nursing and I still wasn’t sleeping but at least able to remember what day of the week it was.

My wife liked the extra calorie expenditure :jimlad:

I did the cleaning, storing, freezing, since she was doing the hard work.
Luckily she had a battery powered pump to make it a little easier on her. I was cleaning everything, every time until a doc said to just buy a spare set of funnels and cups and as long as it went into the fridge you wouldn't have to clean them except at the end of the day.
I sure don't miss carefully pouring into those freezer baggies and afraid of spilling.

Our son was premature, and they were so keen to get every little drop in the hospital that I never got over trying to get every little bit.

We stocked up about 2 weeks ago. Got enough to probably get to the 4th of July. Hopefully Abbott is up and running by then.

Worst case scenario, I’m driving to Detroit and crossing the border

I read somewhere that EU has higher quality standards for formula than the US (e.g. DHA is required there, and is not here), but they aren't allowed to import it due to labeling laws. As in, the EU labels don't contain all the info required by the FDA. But the product itself is at least as good as what is sold here.

I knew it was just a matter of time before one of my asinine in-laws said something dumb about this.

BIL who has never married and has no children left a rambling message on our answering machine. I saw it was him and just let it go to landline machine cause it is always frustrating and I just make my husband talk to him.

He said I could text back, he just wanted to know why this is a big deal and that he doesn’t even know what formula is. So I text him back. Then he calls. “Don’t babies just eat baby food and drink breast milk or milk? Why don’t they just give them milk, this seems like some stupid made up thing by women who don’t want to nurse.” I swear I have no idea how my husband turned out normal.
Like he just called you up out of the blue to talk about this? What a weirdo...

Yep. Claimed he called me because I am an “expert.” My youngest baby is 22 and I think everyone who isn’t a moron knows what baby formula is. He did also complain that Hy-Vee took forever on his order and all he was picking up was whiskey so guessing his brain was even foggier than normal. He likes to drunk call me.

Think it was something like 8 weeks to regulate after that then. Mom in my mom chat has about a week left of specialty kind their baby takes. Asking if any of us see it to ship. No luck in my area. Going to be a long summer.

Our youngest had acid reflux so it was special formula and meds for the first year. That was difficult and spendy. Wife didn’t seem to produce milk, wonder if it had anything due to being C-section births. Maybe the body knows to flip the switch and that screws that up?

With the shut down and now the supply situation, this could become like a toilet paper thing. People hoarding it when they can find it. Only it’s a lot more serious than TP.

A couple years ago it was a little scarce to find when people were hoarding. I was in the aisle getting some and there was an older lady (like 70s/80s) buying some. She asked an employee if they had more of that specific brand because she said that it's the best coffee creamer.

Placenta detaching is what triggers lactogenesis. But sometimes doesn't trigger as well or just doesn't work out for some. Read that 85% of US parents will use some amount of formula in 1st yr. I've been surprised how common supplementation is because it's so often framed as all one or the other.

Heard on the radio of women selling their breast milk once the kids are done. Side gig for you there cg.

I've actually donated through milk Bank a couple times for nicu and neonates. Feels weird to make money off it so I chose not to. DH was surprised when I told him the going rate. Decent change to turn down lol.
Probably like blood. I spend an hour every few months and who knows what they resell it at.

My kid donates plasma and gets $100. I donate plasma/red cells/blood whatever and get a travel package of nutter butters. One time they were out of nutter butters, I was ticked.
Don't forget the little 3oz cups of Ocean Spray OJ
