After the first movie Tom was motivated and got his pilot's certificate. He is now a commercially rated multi-engine pilot. He recently picked up James Corden in his Honda Jet then took him up for some fun in his P-51 before having some more fun in a L-39.

That Honda is down right sexy.

I'm rewatching Top Gun 1 for the first time in a while and I have to say that I hope Top Gun 2 is more like the Mission Impossible series post MI 2 (more focused on action, less on romance).

Also, just realized that the Shawshank guy, Tim Robbins, is Merlin.
There are a few other cast that were probably known more for other movies and shows too that don't necessarily stand out right way. Anthony Edwards (Goose) is Gilbert in the Revenge of the Nerds movies and Clarence Gilyard Jr (Sundown) was James Trivette - Chuck Norris sidekick in Walker Texas Ranger. Meg Ryan who play's Goose's wife was pretty unknown at the time of Top Gun and that movie probably jump started her career.

How did Tim Robbins fit into the cockpit? Isn't he tall?

I don't want to see it, but my wife does so I'll probably go with.

So my wife asked me if I ever saw the first one, I just said yes. I didn't think I should go into details about how the original was an excellent seduction tool in college. lol
It was the "The Notebook" of its day.

Goose on the left during his days studying aerospace engineering and Navy ROTC at Adams College.

I'm excited to see it. I didn't love the first movie and way too many bro's back in the day recited way too many of the lines way too often. That being said, I graduated HS in '86. This movie is pure nostalgia and I'll be horribly disappointed if there isn't a volleyball scene, a karaoke scene, and a fly-by in which Tom Cruise spills coffee on himself this time.

I'm with @cyfanatic. I prefer cheesy movies about fighter jets than cheesy movies about cars turning to the left.

My main argument is Top Gun doesn't have a character or actor in it like Robert Duvall.

He totally kills it as the grizzled old NASCAR crew chief that's totally not Harry Hyde. As far as I am concerned, he's the main character. We meet him before we meet Tom Cruise, after all.

Top Gun has a few strong character actors in supporting roles, especially Tom "Viper" Skerritt, Michael "Jester" Ironside, and James "Stinger" Tolkan. But they don't collectively make up for Duvall.

That is a good point but Tom Skerritt has the terrific mustache so that counts for something.

Nicole Kidman is also better than Kelly McGillis.
