Mmmm…..no thanks. Reminds me of the Walden Dark Ages of Despair and Embarrassment.
Regardless of how we performed those years this is one of the best looking helmets we ever had. I loved this look. Really wish I could find some more things with that retro logo. Our retro stuff from the 80s is probably some of the best looking logos we have ever had, classic, clean. Needs to come back.
Walking Cy, Cursive Cyclones, Orrnado, Cy for individual sports, Leaning Cy on I, All need more representation and a full on campaign and use like other schools have done with their retro and classic logos.
I like the I-State logo As long as it is the simple 2 color design, or outline, and it is great for the current usage, but we need to utilize our best logos more as well, especially the most recognizable, classic, and unique ones.
It could be considerably worse.... we could still be hanging on to that horrid Fred Flintstone logo (rotated 90 degrees) that the TOE still worships.
Iowas “I” logo l, Hawkeyes in script, and old Hawk logo is way better than their tiger hawk.
Would love it if manufacturers gave a thought to ISU fans who are traditional, actual Cardinal and Gold
Not fond of Ketchup and Mustard. Not. At. All. (Yeah, an argument as old as the Middle Ages. So it goes.)
It’s been a while since I’ve seen a mock-up of a yellow-gold helmet with the stencil logo and red face mask. I think it’d look good with cardinal jerseys and pants. Wish I had the studio skills to do it myself.
Hate the people calling it Ketchup and Mustard, that is a Squawk thing. Do they say the same about USC, Arizona, Minnesota, etc. blah blah. Its fine for butt hurt squawks to say it, but when our own fans say it I just want to wash their mouths out with cow $#!+. If you don't like our colors then I don't know what to tell ya other than deal with it.
I like both types of gold styles, really, but I if you are going to go with actual gold, metallic gold, I can't stand the tan gold of teams like Boston College or San Fran 49ers. It needs to be more true gold more like Notre Dame have had some years, only without the glitter look, or the mirrored yellow gold that we have on some of our I-State Foil style decals.
I have always liked our Yellow/gold helmets of the 80s and staying with our other uni color scheme would make the most sense as you would need to change all the gold otherwise to this tan gold ugly color. But adding a true yellow metallic gold would be ok to if it was the right gold.
If we were to go with a metallic gold it would need to be similar to the gold in the I-State/stripe, ND helmet or visor below, not the San Fran or BC tan gold.
Not only that but their cursive Iowa is easily their basketball uniform.

I cringe a little posting UI uni, but doing it for sake of general discussion.
While I'm at it, I admit Iowa bball uniform with block-letters is a clean look (mainly the black, but gold with black is OK, too).
Might as well get my rare positive-Iowa stuff out of the way in one post.
It really got going after that all yellow game where we looked like Ronald McDonald. You can't do that without the the colors we have and look good. I don't like the shade of yellow we have because it's not really gold and just doesn't look good when used as a primary color. Imo.
But it's the shade of yellow we've been using forever so guess we're stuck with it.
This may be unpopular with some of you, but I really can't stand the all yellow/gold basketball uniforms. It's way too much yellow and it hurts my eyes, so to speak.
You realize the whole Ronald Mcdonald thing was because of a CARDINAL helmet and the yellow uni, we wore that year that was terrible. Looking like Rons red hair and yellow outfit. Obviously a gold/yellow helmet doesnt match that look, with any combination, and if you do it right neither would the rest.
I would be fine with keeping gold as the highlight, secondary color, but that means using a gold helmet to stand off the cardinal, and would look sharp, with a cardinal uniform with gold accents.
But yeah it is our primary colors so get used to it, if you dont like it, its pretty much too bad.
Well I don't think a yellow helmet would have made it look much better. Glad we learned our lesson that yellow is not a primary color.
Color scheme is fine. We just need to change our logo. The I State logo looks like a crop insurance company.
