Just go black with yellow numbers instead of red, maybe just use white trim on the yellow, no red at all.
Not picking on you but the common terminology is to refer to the color as yellow not gold. Of course that is what it is

I believe that was @Kagavi work there. Which has done a lot of excellent work.
Roger that. Hopefully he will check in to confirm. I know he doesn't post often.

Thanks.
Edit: Confirmed. I see the Kagavi signature in the lower right now.

To give a little insight, the helmets were painted with locally available paint applied in the equipment room. I doubt they were too worried about matching any color code. Today any paint color can be formulated to match anything.
The 49 gold was adopted in 1964.
September 21, 1963, ISU played Cal.
SF called ISU and inquired about the colors our uniforms were.
Any more questions
What does this have to do with our current official colors? Or should we go REALLY originalist and change back to black, gold and silver?

I would agree it was better than we have had since.
I'll post some pic ideas soon (not done yet) where I use both the current gold (yellow), and the '70's' gold (actually a hybrid).

Here's the color palette I am using. I'll be mostly using the bottom 3 colors here.

Too much Gold looks awful on almost all of the renderings I've seen..

Prefer Black, White and Cardinal as primary colors. Trim with Gold is fine.
And it looks bad when WVU does it, and Baylor, and Cal. Does anybody else do all yellows? Oregon probably has, but they also get custom unis that other schools can't due to the Nike connection.

A quick Google image search showed AZ State, MN, Michigan, Iowa, Wyoming have all worn all yellow unis recently and all of them are just awful. Stop it already.

If we were to do more yellow, limit it to only yellow helmets and pants. No yellow jerseys. And never go mono-yellow.

The worst all-yellow look will forever be the Jaguars color rush.

Unfortunately, that's what the bugle-nado was supposed to be. I believe the goal was to adopt a new logo and shift the "I-State" to more of a secondary. But the bugle just isn't a great logo. The two cardinal tones are too similar and it doesn't read well from a distance, especially on a helmet.
The bugle absolutely blew chunks.
