When the PGA Tour came into being in the late 1960s, it was an improvement over the PGA-run circuit. It developed into what exists today - bigger purses, more events, TV/exposure, etc.

Perhaps, 60 years later, it's time to make another big change. Maybe the LIV is something that we will look back on as another milestone change in professional golf?

Hard disagree on the field comment. The RBC has 10 of the top 50 players in the field. LIV has 6.

With that said there are definitely some simple changes the PGA Tour could make that would be beneficial. I see their number of tournaments the way I see bowl games. There are just too many meaningless PGA events/bowl games. Get rid of some of the fat and have stronger fields. If there are less events you could also offer bigger purses.

I watch PGA most weekends. Sometimes the tournament field is lacking a lot of big names, but that gives lesser veterans or young guys a chance to step up. By having a tournament each weekend it allows the players select the tournaments they want to play. They can opt out if they want a rest, have family commitments, don't like a course, location, etc.

Not sure how fewer tournaments would result in bigger purses. Fewer tournaments generates less revenue from media, sponsors, gate, etc.

Plus one aspect of the PGA that gets overlooked is the money donated to local charities. I haven't paid much attention to the Saudi funded tour, are they donating tournament revenues?

Certain players don't get advantages based on weather changes that you see regularly now on the PGA Tour.

In order, yes. But not the start-to-finish intended order. It's always bothered me on split starts too.

I guess my thought is the course architect designed it in a specific way-- 1 through 18. I think you could argue competitive advantage/disadvantage to not having to play them in that 1 through 18 order.

Take 16-18 at Quail Hollow for example. The architect clearly designed that to be a test at the end of your round. To me, having to play those 3 holes after a 4 hour round is much different than playing those within the first hour of your round.

Or take August for example. having Amen Corner then 13 and 15 both being getable Par 5s is set up purposefully, in my mind. Playing those 3 holes first would be much different than playing those down the stretch.

I guess I just think these courses were set up to be played in order, so play them in order.

So you dislike that the PGA sends out guys to hole 9 to start their round on Thursday and Friday?
